That worked so thanks.  Now just trying to get it to update the firmware and figure out how to change it from my wifi hotspot back to my home broadband wifi.

Our Roborock arrived this morning from Parallel Imported; I see it's gone up $30 this week, so is now $80 more than it was about a month ago (now $679).

Anyway, I assumed I'd need to select 'China' to enable it to connect, but this didn't work - actually requires one to select 'New Zealand', and it connects to the Singapore servers.

I've got it all working fine; main issue will be the practical one of ensuring moveable furniture is shifted to enable it to do a proper clean - ie dining chairs and kitchen barstools out of the way.

What I didn't realise is that the timer function is pretty rudimentary - I'd assumed there would be the ability to establish zones, and then to schedule particular zones to certain days of the week With two dirty boys we wanted it to do the kitchen/dining/lounge every day, with the rest of the house less frequently. I think the answer is going to have to be either let it do the whole house or, on certain days, shut the doors to the rest of the house.

Am I right there's also no way of saving 'zones', ie one needs to re-draw these each time the aim is to vacuum a set space? (I read one can set more than one zone to be done.)

There seem to be a number of owners wanting a more bespoke timer service, so here's hoping Mi provides for this in a software update (as surely it's not too complex, given the ability to save the overall map?).

My only other issue is that I didn't realise it was quite as large as it is, meaning it doesn't get into as smaller spaces as I thought it would; some of these spaces can be fixed by moving furniture etc, but if not there'll still be a need to hand-vacuum those areas.

jonathan18: Thanks for the replies. Both Xiaomi sites (NZ and Ali Express) seem to only sell the accessories as bring for the Xiaomi cleaner - I have a Roborock, but the parts (filter, brushes) look and could well be identical.

@chimera, as someone who has the same machine, do you know if this is the case?

Unsure sorry mate, haven't bought parts yet.  It's only notified me that the sensors need a clean so far.

New to this discussion, have had a quick browse but with 36 pages hard to get a good idea of pros/cons. Reckon the Gen1 is worth it at this price?

I bought it at that price during Waitangi sale.  I have been pretty blown away by it.  I thought the carpets were clean but this thing does a really good job, and over 64sqm I have a full dustbin.  For the hassle of importing I think that Gen1 is totally worth it, and $400 vs $639 online its a good deal.  I have watched a couple youtube videos on both models, and the pluses of the S50 just were not enough to justify.  Another good thing being PBtech sell spare parts if you need them, vs having to import if you say want a new filter, or damage the spinning brush (not that I have needed to yet)

I bought the gen 2, primarily on the basis of the reports it was better dealing with longer pile - but as it happens it still gets stuck the rugs in my son's room! (I've not bothered with the mop function, and wouldn't pay extra for that. 

Provided the gen 1 is fully compatible with the app and the ability to mark off no-go spaces I can't think of many reasons not to just go with one of these rather than pay another $270.

But, as to whether it's worth getting one - I'd agree with others saying they are totally fantastic units and worth every cent. Like the post above, ours gets full enough to warrant emptying each time it does the full house; it's set to automatically do it three times a week while we're at work. I had to come home once when it was stuck in my son's rug (so that space is now 'walled off'), and another time when it ate some lego; it's also set the house alarm off a couple of times. It also has got stuck under a couch a couple of times, which I've managed to get it moving again by simply telling it to move to another space - but again the solution was simply walling off the couches.

In an earlier post I reported problems I was having with the map resetting itself each time, but this resolved itself - it means the full house map is saved and reloaded each time with all the no-go zones still present. I'm not sure how this would function if I used it in a different space; I'm not willing to give this a go, so simply vacuum our stand-alone HT separately. How does this work for those people using there cleaners in two-story places or in different houses?

We are in the habit of lifting objects out of the way before going to work; it can get somewhat confused working through small spaces like between dining chairs, so giving it more space seems to not stress it out so much...
