I had a particular need for some noise cancelling.

I work on the top floor of an old building and there is nothing between my workspace and the roof. When it rains, conversations are impossible and in particular, telephone calls are a no-go.

I bought a set of Spracht Konf-x ear buds in the hope that, at least when I am sitting in on a conference call with the mic on mute, I can hear what is going on.

For noise cancelling, they are great. It's like having a power cut at work. All of the computer fan noise is gone. Conversation killing rain is just a background buzz and I can hear phone calls.

For fifty US bucks, they are a great value. You will not get close to the same level of noise attenuation even if you shell out a lot more cash. Remember, these are in-ear devices so they already cut a decent slice off the ambient noise before the active NC kicks in.

What is bad about them then? Two things. With the NR turned on, the sound quality is not great. Thirty bucks worth of skull candy give better quality sound. Quality is better with the NR off but still not great. That does not matter to me at all. I use them for phone calls only. The bigger problem is quality control and customer support. I bought mine from amazon and they arrived in good time but only with the set of tips that were fitted to the buds. These were the large size and they were no more likely to fit into my ears than a couple of ping pong balls. No worries surely, a phone call will fix this issue won't it? Amazon could not help. They offered a refund if I posted the ear-buds back at my own expense and risk but that was a poor deal as far as I was concerned. Surely a call to Spracht in the US would solve all my problems? What a joke. Spracht customer service told me that there was nothing that they could do. They outright refused to post me a set of tips. They said that it was impossible because they did not have any.

I did the obvious and posted a one-star review on amazon. My review immediately gained three down-votes which I suspect came from Spracht representatives and a comment from an account that had never before appeared on amazon reviews telling me to contact Spracht support and giving me their email address. I assume that was a Spracht sock puppet account. A couple of weeks later, I received a set of tips from Spracht customer support. So I can report that the buds work very well for noise cancelling but customer service is only active if you get loud and stroppy on social media.

So, if you want impressive noise cancelling, do not care so much about audio quality and are prepared to take the risk on QA/support issues then this product might help.

Late to the party hear but I just upgraded my trusty Bose QC25s (now bequeathed to Mrs Item) and upgraded to a pair of Sony MDR-1000x when I was in Melbourne this week.

Got a good deal in a sale from the brilliant Addicted to Audio store and with my GST return and current exchange rate I will have paid about NZ$500.

Really loving them so far - they (IMHO) sound clearly better than the Bose and the ANC is as good. The wireless and cool touch controls are the icing on the cake.

Well worth a demo if you are in the market for a decent pair of ANC wireless and don't want to sacrifice SQ too much...

I did actually demo the Sennheiser Momentum 2 and the very lovely KEF/Porsche Design Space Ones as well and found:

  1. The Senn's sounded slightly better/different than the Sony's to my ears but were crazy uncomfortable for me!
  2. The KEFS sounded by far the best, but the noise cancelling wasn't as good as the Bose or the Sony, they were more pricey and they were wired only
  3. The Sony's were the best all-rounders and worked best for a very specific purpose - i.e. mobile and travel listening. If I want better SQ I always have my FAD Sonorous VIs at home...

Have you, or anyone else, had the chance to try out the Sony MDR-1000X with a device that has LDAC support? My Sony z5 has it and was wondering how much of a difference LDAC makes to the audio quality. Am eyeing up a new set of noise cancelling cans and thinking these look the biz

Just acquired some new QC35 and wow .. they are good. I have not actually tested them in a Plane yet but in a few loud environments such as outside by a loud car and in front of my stereo they are great.

I have some older Blackbox M10's and they where good at the time but these are 100% better making the noise go away.

Out of the box (V1.0.2?) software I noticed a few problems (random clicks once in a while) but after upgrading the firmware on the headphones (1.2.10?) it seems to fix any problems.

AvWorld have them for $499 at the moment but pbtech have them priced lower but the Pbtech ones are parallel imported with no Bose NZ support/warrenty.

Not yet! The missus has a Samsung S7 which should support, so might give it a go...

With that kind of discount you are practically making money. It would be irresponsible not to buy them.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have the Sony Z5 as well. These headphones will complement them nicely....if I can get the ok.
