Anyone bought the Echo Spot? I see they're not in NZ yet, so gonna buy a couple from Amazon.

Just wanna make sure there's no limitations for NZ.

Thanks. $40USD off if you buy 2. Seems like a good deal. Will have to use Youshop though.

Question: If i were to buy 4x Echo Spots (approx $600NZD), but ticked 'Gift' at checkout, would that be enough to by-pass any customs fees?

Or am I better off buying 2, and then another 2 seperately?

No. And if you buy 2 and 2 you may still be charged if the boxes arrive too close to each other.

I've had my Spot for a couple of weeks and had no problems. I have it set to UK English.

Alexa won't seem to play a local radio station that I have saved - Mix 98.2. The station even shows up as a favourite in the Alexa app when I browse iHeartRadio but it won't play. It comes up with an error.
I'm betting it is probably because I have the region set to the U.S.

Try asking “Alexa play 98.2”

ps, I'm a fairly new Echo user (just a month or so). Is anyone worried about privacy using these devices? I did worry about it before my purchase a bit, but it does sit at the back of my mind sometimes. This morning, the Echo woke me up when it kind of flashed green a few times. I thought it might be updating or something, so I looked up what green means and apparently it's if someone is trying to call you using the echo-to-echo calling feature. I don't have this enabled (I didn't give Alexa access to my phone contacts) and there are no notifications when I ask her, so not sure what it was.

"...on tune in"

Eg: I say "Alexa, play The Edge on Tune In" or "Alexa, play More FM on Tune In" and she plays it spot on every time.  If she doesn't understand, you have to pronounce it "toon in" :-)

Although unfortunately, it doesn't look like Tunein supports Mix FM... https://tunein.com/radio/Mix-982-s87092/

(EDIT: With tune in, no account needs to be setup)

Newly acquired Echo. Trying to learn what it will do while wife away!! Wanted it to be easy for her to play music she likes. Trialling Amazon music unlimited. Frustrating bit is  to know how to ask for  exactly what you want. Couple of examples. Tried to get songs from Les Miserable - only got screechy violins. Tried to get Sol-- Mio trio - only got some dude singing O Sole Mio. Admittedly, that latter was a tall order but it illustrates the difficulty in getting what you want played.

Any tips to help with the music requests?

Also, any other WAF tips? She is not a natural when it comes to tech stuff but any helpful uses you have found will be welcome!

Link in your Spotify account if you have one.  Just name your playlists very uniquely and its more likely she'll get it right each time.  Never had issues with Spotify, its the best music app around I reckon, worth the monthly fee hands down (thanks Spark).  I don't even listen to radio in the car, always just play my playlists or often "discover weekly" songs.  For parties, download 'Pyro' app to your phone, link in your spotify account, and add a playlist or song and stream, it mixes between songs really well...  but that ain't really Alexa related, I digress...

Personally, my wife was mega anti when I got the Echo.  Now she uses it more than I do - turning on lights, turning on the TV/Netflix, listening to the radio or songs on Spotify etc. Funniest part though is she speaks to her in a semi-robot voice - like with full stops between each word!  Always makes me laugh.  Nice that they opened it up more so we can specify NZ as location so asking for weather works spot on too now.  Tell your wife to ask Alexa "who's your daddy" :-)
