Thanks, chimera, appreciated. Can't do lights etc as not a smart home yet! How do you get TV/Netflix control? Harmony hub? Would like to use it for radio but radio streaming is several minutes behind. The news would have to be the 10 min past news!

Don't have spotify but will have a look.

Cheers.

Radio NZ National is only about 10secs behind and the Flash Briefing can be set to RNZ too. We use it all the time.

Wanted Newstalk ZB but Alexa doesn't know about that one.

Did get it once via iheart radio but that was where I got the delay.

Thanks very much for your help. Will keep trying!

For parties, download 'Pyro' app to your phone, link in your spotify account, and add a playlist or song and stream, it mixes between songs really well...  but that ain't really Alexa related, I digress...

I'll have to check it out, but heave you heard of the 'Flo' app? It can create a shared 'social' network by linking everyone's phone and letting them contribute to the playlist which plays music through the host phone connected to the speaker - or if there is no speaker, play the same song through everyone's phones at the same time. If there's no wi-fi, the host phone can be made to be a wi-fi hotspot. It works with Spotify now, too.

I couldn't see 'Audible' in the list in 'Music, Video, & Books' in Alexa for some reason.

Instead I just asked Alexa, "what Audible books do I own"? And she told me. I could then ask her to play one of them.

I am getting frustrated with Alexa not understanding my Zealund accent as it is set to US at the moment. I have resisted changing to NZ because of the paucity of Skills but am considering changing the moment because of the accent problem. Is the US to NZ journey a one way trip? Or if I need the extra skills, can I simply revert to US. I would hope this was the case, because it is certainly achievable in the Google ecosystem.

I must admit I've never had a problem with either Alexa or Google home understanding what I'm asking them and I am also a Kiwi although perhaps not with such a pronounced New Zealand acccent. Perhaps the result of spending almost 10 years working abroad?

I certainly wouldn't switch to the New Zealand store for that reason.

If I sign into Audible with my Amazon account that is associated with Alexa, then the books that I have purchased using that account show up [under music, videos and books > books > Audible]

I'm also resisting the change, although it's mostly cos I've only recently plugged our Echo back in after the power supply stopped supplying one day.  Would also like to know about any downsides.

Haven't had too many issues with Alexa understanding normal requests and questions, but ran into some issues with a quick play of the Headsup game.  No matter who answered/yelled/screamed "Thor", with or without faux-American accents, Alexa wouldn't recognise it.

I use Alexa on an Amazon Fire TV and I'm always surprised how it can understand everything I say, even though I have my Brazilian - New Zealand accent on...

I'm looking into Fire TV, what's the usability like? How does it allow you to say select things in Netflix (by name? or do you have to tell it a direction)
