Very interesting Hamish. Is there a link for the source code he used to do that? I have a Pi sitting right next to my lamp and would like to program up my lamp to turn on/off at certain times. Is this something you are looking to add to the standard iOS app?

I've been reading about these LimitlessLED bulbs a bit and it's so ridiculously hard to find any information or reviews on them, but they seem very promising so I gave them a shot, I just ordered 2 RGB bulbs and a wifi bridge. I'm pretty excited. I wonder why these aren't getting much coverage from Tech blogs like Engadget or Gizmodo. Either way, I can't wait til I get mine!

EDIT: I actually had a few questions, Is there a lot of development going on for the application? I had the hardest time trying to find it in the market, the only way I found it was through the Limitless website. I'd love to see a feature where you can change the color of the bulb from a picture kind of like the LIFX ones.

Mine arrived last Thursday.

Good packaging, and I was delivered what I ordered (although I think the box says they are white globes, I ordered and received RGB globes).

The instructions need a bit of work, and I'm sure Hamish will get to that, but they were easy enough for me to follow. I did have to raid another remote control for a couple of AAA batteries for the remote. Once I founf the batteries, and paired the Remote to the bulbs, they worked as promised. Colour changing was fine, dimming worked fine.

They are not hugely bright, but they certainly are not below expectations (I didn't expect them to be blindingly bright, and I guess they are about what I expected).

I setup the WiFi Bridge, again following instructions that are good enough for anyone with the ability to setup an ADSL router to follow. I forgot to change the key type to ASCII the first time round, which had me confused for about 20 seconds. The iPhone App works just as well (if not slightly better with colour choosing) as the remote.

My wishlist - a memory button or two on the App - where you can set a colour you like (say a warm white) and press that button to go straight to it. Maybe an advanced colour chooser, where you could enter RGB values to get a specified colour (again with a memory setting). Also, a timer setting would be nice.

All in all, for the price, I'm happy with them. I would definitely consider some White globes.

If I get time, and inclination, I may look at Englishising Hamish's instructions.

@trig42, thanks for the feedback, we will look at adding some of these features.. and yes you can use the iphone app called PolyTool this remembers your favorite colors, with a click of the button.

I've been looking at limitless LED for a while. My theory was to use them in conjunction with a ninja block.  Discovering they are a NZers idea is the awesome bonus that has taken them from a 'probable' to a definite for me next pay day.
  what would be your minimum considered normal light W? 60W, 75W, 100W?
If I was purchasing incandescents I would be getting 100w bulbs, but would settle for 75w if I couldn't get 100.   I'll see how I do with the 50 and 60w equilivents when they turn up.

One question: Do all bulbs in a zone act in the same manner (so if I was to setup multiple colour bulbs would I have to have a zone (and therefore controller) for each one that I wanted to control individually?)

The white bulbs have around 550 lumens and it's brightness looks like a 40 Watt normal bulb.

The color bulbs, if not set to full RGB "chinese white" mode but to a full color, give only 1/3 to max 2/3 of that real white power.
So looks more like a 15 to 30 watt ordinay bulb depending on (mixed) color selection.

Color Zones:

Correct. Each wifi controller supports 4 white zones and 1 color zone.
The App supports selecting muliple controllers trough an alias that is bound to an IP.
If you want to add more zones, or simply a second color zone, you have to add an extra controller.
Each bulb can be assigned to multiple zones.

I just installed my bulbs and I'm loving it. Is there a reason why 1 wifi controller can only control one RGB zone? I'd like it if I could control both my bulbs separately!

With a little extra effort this could had beign a perfect product.
Like selling a bulb that combines the dual white and the colors.

Fixing the 5 channel hardware restriction on the router side.

Fixing the "chinese white" of the colour bulb ( which looks pink)

Creating a bul;b that allows saturation to be softer ( more white pastel) instead of fully saturated colors or pure chinese white.

We actually assisted with the engineering, so it's mostly AU/NZ engineering. So, sorry about that. and you can direct those comments at us. The rgb bulb was never intended to be white.. it was intended to be color... the Warm white and Cool White is our designed bulb if you want white. the 5 zones is a limitation on cost, since the rf chip we used was limited in the security codes we could fit in the low cost chips.

We are engineering new products since we only now realize there is demand for both a brighter rgb with white now, but we never saw that rgb would be so popular, and that people would want white with it. It was always envisaged that everyone would want to control warm/cool white LED bulbs only.

thats great to hear. yes the design is based on keeping the RF cost low, the original design is for white leds, the rgb was added on as an extra zone. We are looking at adding more zones in the future.
