richms: Has anyone seen if the chromecast correctly handles 24 and 25/50 FPS streams or if it makes a mess of it like android devices?

The guy demoing the device said it pulls the highest quality stream it can. You would assume it has been optimized for high quality streaming but then again $35 suggests otherwise....

It looks like the DNS are "hardwired" in the chromecast which is why it won't work. Hopefully as it has now been unlocked a fixed can be sorted.

Bummer. Netflix was one of the reasons I have bought one. Not due to be shipped until end of August so maybe something will get sorted in the mean time..

Just use your router to pick different DNS based on domain.
If your router runs DNSmasq then this is quite easy and means you only have to use Unblock-US for the domains you want to.

Wouldnt the chromecast having a hardwired DNS going to googles ones break its ability to use local CDNs for anything that isnt youtube? Seems like a dumb move to me.

Amazon did email me saying my Netflix code would be delivered to me 7 days after shipping my Chromecast.. I realised I was at the edge of the deadline of free Netflix codes..

I bought three Chromecast (one for myself, two for other Geekzone users so we can share the YouShop costs). got an email from Amazon saying they'd send me the codes a week after shipping, so it should be about now.

I don't have high hopes for it at the moment as I'm pretty happy with a HTPC/Media Center which can actually, you know, do live DVB-T (pause, record, series, etc). My guess is this attracts more of a Netflix, Hulu audience, both largely unavalable out side the US. A bit or Geek Mastery is needed to make these things work outside the country. I think all things said most people would like a real HTPC or at least an Apple TV box.

My one was purchased because at US$35 it is a good price to tinker with the tech. But not having high hopes.

Got mine from BestBuy. Got the code, and it worked. So I don't feel completely stupid that Netflix doesn't work on the chromecast since I got 3 months for free.

I was planning to try use my second one after the first 3 months had expired. Do you think that will work? I.E. I don't think Netflix would allow you to "stack" the free time

Got mine a few days ago.

It works beautifully with Youtube but I haven't tried any other apps (I'm praying they make an NFL app).

I power mine using the USB port on my MySky.

Good news: I tried rerouting the address to unblock us using my dd wrt flashed router. Easy as pie, and works perfectly with netflix. Mission accomplished.

My Chromecast is coming through YouShop. I couldn't install the Netflix app on my HTC One since it's configured through Telecom NZ as the carrier. No problem, it came pre-installed on my ASUS MemoPad and it updated just fine as it seems a non-mobile data device is assigned to its country of origin (I got this one in the USA).

Anyway, installed Hola on the device and Netflix plays just fine. Now to see how it works when "slinging" to the Chromecast.

By the way Hola works just fine on desktop as well.
