For sleep tracking, I guess you need to wear the watch at night? Is that not uncomfortable?

Well, yes it can be. When you roll over and smack your significant other in the head with said watch, the resulting stint on the couch can indeed be rather uncomfortable.

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Amazfit is not too bad for a cheaper watch etc. Battery goes for days, still get your phone notifications (these can be turned off) etc.  I tend to get them shipped from Amazon or dicksmith.

They offer a lot of different watches for different price points.  Good if you want to test out a watch before paying big $$$

Nope. I wear mine in bed every night and it's never bothered me.

It takes a while but you do get used to it. After a while you don't even notice it.

I'm no athlete, but for less obtrusive tracking of sleep and workout heart rate etc I find the Oura ring is pretty good. Battery lasts about 4-5 days.

I have sleep tracking on my watch, but struggle to see the point of it all apart from draining the battery quicker. I can tell when I've had a bad night's sleep by how many times I've woken up, or how I feel in the morning.

In all seriousness, what do people use sleep tracking for? Am I missing something obvious?

At least with some Garmin watches, it feeds into other things like workout's it suggests. If you've had a bad sleep, it may suggest an easier workout.

Pebble had an app that would wake you at the optimal time through your sleep cycle relative to your alarm time.

Looks like the Withings watches have something similar - mine arrived today and I see there's a 'smart wake up' setting that allows me to set a period of up to 60 minutes during which the alarm will go. I'd be interested to hear how effective this is, but generally if I need an alarm it needs to be at an exact time.

Like all these things the most useful data isn't for each individual day, it's trends over time.

For example if your amount of REM sleep drops by 20% over a couple of months it can indicate a problem

I have a free lifetime membership because of when I happened to be given the ring. Otherwise I probably wouldn't pay for it - I'm not a fan of paying a subscription to get access to data from hardware you already paid for.

I have also decided to have a blast form the past, I have ordered an old school Casio Watch as a watch for a casual gardening and beach etc. Probably a quiet day and too much time surfing the web and a debit card to close.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I'm still wearing my old fitbit charge 2. Works with home assistant and I can have my sleep time read out to me in the morning as part of the morning routine.
