I have just purchased my first echo dot and was wondering if anyone has had success at setting the Sony tv skill? I can add the skill via the alexa app, and have set up the app on the TV however the app cannot discover the TV. I restarted the TV, checked for firmware updates, checked app permissions on the TV but still no joy.

I am using an echo dot v3 and my TV is a KD-65X9000E.

Good luck with getting one, I've had a pre order in for a sandstone plus gen 2 and subwoofer since mid Nov and neither have been provided to jb hifi by amazon. The gen 2 has a date in 'the new year' while the sub has no eta at all.

Bit frustrating really, you can also see noel leeming have pulled those products from their site.

There's availability in aus, they're just not giving any to nz. Have a friend going to aus in a couple of weeks, if there's no movement by then then the order will be cancelled and they'll be coming over in a suitcase instead.

Only $199 from Amazon au. Very impressed with the sound. Everything is wireless and just amazing as a product. A Must have if you use your echos for music...

No woofers available at jbhifi au

Got the plus the other day finally, 73 days between order and fulfillment. Not quite as good as the sonos one but def good enough to replace it and get a far cheaper and adaptable multiroom setup. I'm also enjoying the lack of a 'urgh' noise everytime you ask it to do something which happens on the sonos gear.

239 at jb nz. got a refund on the difference as preorder was 269, + a bit more refunded for the hassle.

No word on the sub eta for nz.

Does anyone have an idea how much bandwidth an Echo device uses while on standby?
I've tried to do a Google search but reports tend to vary.

I ask because I've moved locations from where I've had unlimited fibre to a semi-rural area having to use 3G with a capped data amount.

I'm guessing the device wouldn't use too much just waiting for a command, but apparantly it does use MB updating itself, and other reports have it using GB in just days.

I have a KD-49X7000D that I have had no luck setting up I then checked and found that the skill does not cover it. I tried the harmony remote and found it to complex and wasnt that great. I was thinking of getting a firestick to see what that can do. The other thing I havnt looked into but may work is the whats it called amazon tv box? Have to look into that sometime. In the meantime I will have to continue to press the button the remote! what a drag!

I am having an issue as my kids grow up that they want to listen to music. We have Echo's and the like in multiple rooms, and my daughter wants to play 1 song in 1 room and my son in the other. We have a Spotify family account but if child one is playing music, then the other kid tries to play music, it stops in the first childs area.

Is there a workaround?

We have exactly the same issue. Separate amazon accounts for each I believe is the only workaround, but then you lose other functionality such as a single account for management of all echos, or multi room support. Be good if you could have one amazon account then assign individual Spotify accounts to each echo.

Edit: the workaround we do is just tell the kids they have to connect to the echo from their phones via Bluetooth and play Spotify that way... bit ugly but it works

I'm going to check with their support chat people. I believe they will tell us what we want is doable with Amazon Music. I am not opposed to switching, I like Amazon and am happy to support them, so long as the music library is the same. One of the things I like about Spotify is they seem to get new music pretty much immediately. I am not sure with Amazon music, but maybe should start another topic for it.

Had an interesting experience today. Plugged in the charger cable to my Nova 3i and placed the 3i on top of my Amazon Echo. A short while later we heard faint voices coming from the phone and my wife said she thought it was phoning out. Picked it up - nothing. Later, I got a call from someone I had received a call from previously asking what I had called for!

Any idea how my phone got triggered to dial out? Alexa did not fire up. I thought maybe it was calling Huawei, China, but not so! Perhaps I should tell GCSB it looks OK?

How is it going? Amazon halted sales yesterday due to connection problems...

I just got one as well. Setup was easy, no connection problems... first time round. Unfortunately I bumped the clock hands when putting the clock up on the wall - that's something you definitely don't want to do! After that it was a real hassle getting it to show the correct time again and getting it to sync properly. Finally all good again now.

Just brought 3 Echo Dots 3rd Gen for just over $100 NZD from Amazon USA. This is to get them delivered to NZ Post / YouShop in the USA. Postage to NZI will be about $27 so the total cost will be about $42.50 each.

So, I have my Echo attached to my Harmony Remote. I have activities like Watch TV Downstairs, Play PS4 etc, but to turn on my PS4 I say "Alexa - Turn on Playstation".

I can't seem to find the combination to activate the "Watch TV downstairs" activity". "watch TV" turns on the upstairs one...

Is there a way to see what Alexa wants to hear to start a specific activity?

I have used “Routines” (accessible from hamburger top left) and used a custom phrase connected to a harmony activity.
“Alexa, it’s movie time” turns my ‘Bluray Movie’ activity on.

I have my Alexa Echo Dot 3rd gen and I am not impressed. Doesn't sound that much better to my ear and the cloth cover is fragile. I have already managed to tear it. Also not a fan of the custom 12v power supply, USB is so much more convenient. Anywayze, for those wanting to spend the money, I can't recommend the change. Funnily enough at PB Tech the 2nd Gen Echo Dot is $93 v only $71 for the 3rd Gen Echo Dot! I paid a lot less as I purchased direct from Amazon.

I'm sure my 3rd Gen Dot uses standard Micro-USB?

I wasn't overly impressed with the audio compared to my 2nd gens...

Better volume, but quality is muffled at higher levels.
