enfield:

Does any local retailer price match with dicksmith as it has the echo dot 3 for $45 but the shipping is $31

I doubt it.

They'll possibly match the TOTAL price. Most retailers won't price match with an online price (unless that online store has a physical store too).

Pretty sure that's how DS/Kogan get their pricing so cheap, they overcharge on the freight. No way it should cost $31 to get an echo dot from Aus to NZ.

Mine has been sitting at shipito for a couple of weeks now waiting to combine with other things because shipping on its own is not worth it.

Bit worried about Audio quality since the music will be streaming from the phone to this and then to the stereo so hoping its not too bad.

rogercruse:...Still waiting for the Echo Auto device to become available so I can have Alexa in the car...

At last!

I've had to use YouShop as they won't ship directly to New Zealand, so I should get a delivery sometime next week.

It'll give me something to do while I'm put on hold this Vodafone Customer Care as they sort out my Account Merge (see too many other posts!).

I requested an invite on 22nd June.

Got the invite on 2nd July and have ordered it (Youshop).

Exciting!

Are there any Echo users who are also big podcasts listeners, and have managed to find a good app with Alexa integration to use an Echo to play podcasts?

It seems that Echo products are sh!t with podcasts, and given they form most of my car listening I'd really like to be sure I can get decent integration before ordering an Echo Auto (and this includes be able to use the same podcasting app that I would use in all other situations).

Apparently TuneIn is rubbish, and AnyPod is simply a skill but doesn't have an app (pointless). The two apps that are mentioned as having some integration are Pocket Casts and Stitcher,  neither of which I've tried (I used Podcast Addict).

What I'm after is the ability to verbally instruct Alexa to start playing podcasts from my podcast app's main playlist, or the latest episode of a particular podcast, accessing my downloaded podcast files, not just streaming them direct.

Any advice or experience with this much appreciated.

Edit: Pocket Casts seems to do all I want, going by its website, but I note it provides skills for UK, US, Aus and Canada - is it likely that any or all of these skills will still work in NZ? And could I test them out by installing them for use on one of our Amazon Fire TVs?

Got my Echo Auto today.
When I try to set it up, it doesn't list Echo Auto.
Please don't tell me that I can't use it in NZ...

Got mine a week ago... works fine.

These are my setup options for an android phone

  1. In the 'Alexa' app on your phone
  2. Choose the 'Devices' button at the bottom of the screen
  3. Then choose the 'plus' icon at the top of the screen
  4. pick the 'Add Device' option
  5. and then pick the 'Amazon Echo' option
  6. on the 'choose a device to set up' screen pick the 'Echo Auto'
  7. Ignore the 'Warning' while driving message and hit 'Continue'
  8. follow the on screen instructions [I've already setup my device, so I don't know the exact screens from here]

So today I got my 2nd Gen Echo Show Today. It shipped with a bug that others have reported where there is no sound, but strangely it's fixed by removing the power from the DEVICE end (the other end doesn't fix it).

Other than that, it's SO much better than the Gen 1 device which we really like, but the sound is out of this world better, with bass and clarity and volume significantly improved.

It's in the kitchen already and the bigger screen means it's much more practical to display recipes etc.

I consider it a very worthwhile upgrade.

Yep, I've done exactly that, but Echo Auto is not listed. Neither, if I log in on my laptop via the web browser.

EDIT: Finally works. I had to change my country settings. They were previously on UK settings. Changed them to US. NZ might work obviously, if yours is working.

I got mine about a month ago but haven't installed it yet. I was thinking of giving it away as as Christmas present but annoyingly the Youshop folks broke open the seal to the box for some reason so it's not "new" now.

I can't really think of a reason to use it since all the functionality it provides is available on Android Auto on my phone.

Would someone mind changing their wake word to echo and seeing if it has any trouble recognising you? Given my profession and kids names and a few other things, none of the other wake words other than echo, are ideal, but if I enable that I can't activate the device without a fake deep voice.

I have a reasonably deep voice, but not that deep.

Ive used alexa and computer on mine. Computer is much more likely to false trigger I find, but that is on my echo spot which has pretty bad mic's compared to the show or dots which I use for others.

...also, what are your thoughts about the Echo Auto? What do you like / don't you like? Any gotchas?

I'm still waiting for mine to turn up... ugh.

I sold mine after testing it.
Just not for me. Unnecessary for me to have Alexa in the car, but I’m sure some of my fellow Geekzoners will enjoy it.
