The skill advertised by Mike Hosking himself for Newstalk ZB simply doesn’t work !
“I could not find a station called newstalk zb christchurch on iheart radio”, is the response I get when copying word for word what Hosko is telling us in the advert.

Same goes for Rova.... it’s a hit n miss if Alexa loads Rova or decides to waffle about the mars rover.

For listening to the Auckland station, I say, "Alexa, play NewsTalk ZB, Auckland". I pronounce "ZB" as "zee bee".

And Alexa replies, "NewsTalk ZB from TuneIn" and plays it.

Maybe you can substitute Chirstchurch instead of Auckland? Or just play Auckland?

If you want to try My Pod, as per my previous post, substitute the URL https://ais-nzme.streamguys1.com/nz_003_aac

This is for NewsTalkZB Christchurch.

I just replaced Auckland with Wellington and that worked okay. Not that it's a station I listen to

I got one of these for my kids echo dot. My big girl is now carting their echo dot everywhere around listening to Minecraft audiobooks. I think I've created a monster but it seems to work very well. Battery life is several hours - we haven't tested it to flat yet. Recommended if you want to make an echo dot portable.

I had been using the stuff daily "Alexa, what's in the news" briefing, but it hasn't been updated in months.
Stopped around the COVID lockdown period.

Ditched it in favour of the national radio one.

You mean the Stuff NZ? Interesting.

I've put Geekzone news skill in there a couple of months back.

If I say Alexa Play My Flash Briefing I first hear RNZ News followed by local weather and then NPR News. Not sure if I set any source anywhere.

Do you have the Alexa app on your phone?

Yep, you configure this response behavior / sources and more in the app.

For iHeart radio there was nothing I could do to make Alexa play The Rock FM by voice command. Just impossible. In the end I used the app and found the station and played it from there. Now I can just ask alexa to play iHeart Radio and I get the station I was listening to last time, which solves the issue if I never change the station.

I usually say "Alexa, news" to get my Flash briefing, but she gave me a message that other day that this command now invokes a longer news segment and said I had to pick something like CNN, Fox, etc and asked which i wanted....

Also annoyed. Have curated list of news briefings set up. Now need to say "play flash briefing..." or similar. No warning given to me.

Flash briefing sounds stupid. I say what’s in the news? and that sounds like more natural English format to me. Currently use radio NZ as the source followed by bbc world. Only issue is different volume levels between each.

Yup and I just checked and the settings are there. Don't recall setting them but that's fine. They are the sources I want to listen to anyway.  Just took a while for me to get the same output on Google Home device.
