Greetings to all,

New kid on the block here
Just received new Dot 2 today! Unfortunately my excitement turned to feeling rather foolish when after a number of unsuccessful attempts to download the Alexa app on my iPhone, I realised that it was not possible to do so in this country.

After some googling, I found myself here greatly encouraged to see other Kiwis having great success.
I have indeed gone through the posts, and see that there are definitely solutions however, I am still uncertain as to the best way to proceed.

Thus, I would humbly request your wisdom as to the best way to get things set up and running (forgive  me if the answer is obvious)

My primary reason for the purchase, is because I am a disabled person with no movement from the shoulders down. I believe the Dot has the potential to allow me to control my environment using my voice and in doing so restore a degree of independence.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers and Merry Christmas,

DJO

Maybe because many of us with the Echo or Dot have Android phones so we can sideload the app which might not be easy on IOS.

You don't really need the app. You can configure most things form the web page

http://alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html#cards

I must admit I hardly ever use the app - only to add a new skill and I think you can do that also from the web page.

Hauraki is gone from tunein ages ago, so I guess that is why you cant get it on there. I havent really put any effort into seeing if iheartradio will work or not after the mess that I had with that horrid service on my phone I just gave up on it.

Anyone able to get Radio Sport on iheartradio working when you say it? When I say Radio Sport, it goes to Sports Radio in the US, even though Radio Sport is on iheartradio. But I can get it manually using the echo app.

try saying radiosport nz, or radiosport auckland., but i think its due to licencing and also your address being set to a US address, so it associates your iheartradio account as from the US . I have the same problem with radio hauraki.

Install the amazon app store and get it from that :)

It will also update it when a new one comes out

What benefit does downloading an APK do for NZers? I am using it successfully without doing this.

Yes I tried both of those but it says it can't find the station. Although if I use the app it does. ALso if I say Alexa, play iheartradio, it will load Radio Sport NZ as the last used station, so that looks like it is my only option until Amazon open it up to the world.
