You wont lose the books but you won't be able to open them if your kindle is registered with another account.

Hi

I recently bought a Kindle DX on Trade Me. The previous owner deregistered it and I have reregistered it to my Kindle account.

I have bought quite a lot of books for it that I have had to download through my computer.

I cannot access anything on it wirelessly but I can download wirelessly to my iTouch, also registered with Kindle, via my broadband connection.

On the DX, the only two items shown on the Settings page are the Device Info and Registration. The registration paragraph just says "not registered" even though the device is in fact registered with Amazon.

Is there any way I can get the Dx to work wirelessly, as I want to subscribe to a magazine that is only delivered wirelessly, unless you buy single copies at more than twice the price?

PS I have just ordered a 6" wi-fi 3G Kindle3 for my wife. I hope she does not have the same problem downloading away from the computer.

Thanks for any advice given!

Got my WiFi-only Kindle yesterday, and it's awesome! With the amount of books loaded on it, I doubt I'll ever run into an issue of needing to buy a book in a place with no computers/wifi. Couldn't really see the point of the extra NZ$80 for it. Especially considering you can get an Android/WinMo phone to act as a hotspot.

astroboy: Ok. I've got the new Kindle, and the Kindle app on my iPad. I've purchased a few books. Now I've decided that I want access to the US store, so I set up a US account with a US address. If I attach the Kindle to the new account, will I lose the books I've already purchased?

If I recall correctly you can use a US account to gift US books to your NZ account.  Just use the buy as gift option.

Other way around, I gift certs from my NZ account to my US account and buy books with US account (kindle registered with US account ofc).

LOL at that advert, she paid more for the sunglasses, ugly as sin they are, yuk.  The Kindle is brilliant in the sun etc, only when Im in bed at night that I wouldnt have minded a bit of backlight, have to turn on the beside lamp instead.  Will get around to getting one of those clip-on lights tho.

This ad actually doesn't work for me. I know the iPad is better in dark places. One thing to note, though, is the weight. I can lie in bed with one hand holding the Kindle for a couple of hours at least. The iPad gets tiring after a few minutes.

Very unlike a book, right ;)

Haven't thought it that way, but you're right. They ARE trying to replace the book.

I got my K3 (wifi) on the 3rd and have only just had to recharge it for the first time (besides the first charge when I got it) now. (It was sitting at ~25%).

I've been leaving wifi on the entire time and read through two novels + using the browser over wifi for ~3 hours. So all good :)
