Blanch: What's the best place to download latest APK? I can't find Alexa app on apkmirror.com

What benefit does downloading an APK do for NZers? I am using it successfully without doing this.

I use to setup my smart lights and the shopping list is good.

I can also use the shopping list. Also I can setup my Wemo switches with lights, although haven't tried it with philips Hues yet. Aprt from the echo thinking I am in Seattle, I haven't noticed any real restrictions on it's use without using the APK.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I am using the iOS app, which you can get by just setting up a free US itunes acccount. Hadn't thought of setting  up the app on my android phone.

The Amazon shopping app will give you amazon underground which will then enable you to download the Alexa app on Android. It is also handy for grabbing the Fire TV remote app.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Anyone able to get Radio Sport on iheartradio working when you say it? When I say Radio Sport, it goes to Sports Radio in the US, even though Radio Sport is on iheartradio. But I can get it manually using the echo app.

How did you get iheartradio working? I can't even get the option for it to show up, I can only see amazon music and tunein.

iHeartRadio requires you changing your amazon account location to the USA. Be aware that it will kick you out of any families you have set up when you do this. And won't let you join/make another for 6 months.

That's what I thought, and my account has always been US based, which is why I've found it strange that I can't see the option.

Are you sure you aren't just using a US address? That's not enough to have the station appear. Go to you ramazon account and then to Manage Your Content and Devices, and the Settings pane. Check your country setting is for United States and it should work a few minutes later.

Has someone here got the time and skill to write an Echo skill that would play the latest hourly radio New Zealand news bulletin upon demand?  I for one would fine such a skill very useful.

I have set it up to get the latest bulletin from RadioLive news. Still trying to get Radio NZ news working, which is what I'm really after. Just having a play with wireshark to determine what I'm missing.

The difficulty is that I'm not the content owner, so can't publish the skill for others to use. You can however easily register as a developer, and keep the feed in testing mode. That way it'll work on any echos registered to your amazon account.

The process was fairly simple.

Steps involved:

1. Register for a free developer account on developer.amazon.com

2. Click Alexa->Alexa skills kit

3. Click "Add a new skill"

4. Click "Flash briefing skill API"

5. Fill in each of the stages up to testing. For the news feed, you'll need a file hosted somewhere that returns the appropriate json data. The amazon documentation gives you an example of what you need.

6. Click "Yes" for start testing this skill.

Then, go to the alexa app (or alexa.amazon.com) and click skills. In the top right, click "Your skills" and search for the name you entered at step 5. Then go to settings->flash briefing and enable it.

PM me if you need an example of the json data. I'll post again if I get Radio NZ working.
