Yes, I found out it shows up on the content rows but not as an icon on the left side.

Wow. And so too does PBTech.

I have the recent non max version. Given I only watch Netflix, SkySportNow and Amazon on it on a cheap UHD tv, would I gain much by upgrading to the max version?

Perhaps getting a better device for when you upgrade the TV?

Bought Firestick 4k max a couple of weeks ago, very impressed I have to say, no lag at all in and moving between apps,

The Sony Android Tv menu and MI Box are taking a break at the moment while I play with the Firestick.

Only down side is no Google Store and could not get "Live Channels" to work with TVirl, but installed Perfect Player with Matt Huisman M3U links and it's really good.

Over all very happy, cost $54.

Pete

Achieved which?

Everything I am running (Netflix, TVNZ+, ThreeNow, SkySportNow) I just installed from the Fire TV App Store. Had some wierdness with SkySportNow that eventually and mysteriously resolved itself.

I was replying to Mauricio and his question about the TVNZ+ Favourites menu.

For TVNZ and TV3 supplied channels, both Live and OnDemand, the TVNZ+ (TVNZ1, TVNZ2, Duke) and ThreeNow (Three, Bravo, HGTV, Eden, Rush) apps work better and don't need to be sideloaded. Do you need the other non-mainstream FreeView channels?  FIf so you will have to get your hands dirty with a download manager app and sideloading. Matt Huizmann's website has all you need.

For now it's unavailable but as they just launched the streaming app standalone from the old catch up app and are rolling it out to Android tv and smart tv platforms I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see it find it's way over to these at some point.

I wouldn't be so sure. I asked Freeview and received this:

The app is being rolled out across a wide range of Freeview-approved devices, we may look to extend the app onto more of those approved devices following the initial push. It's worth noting that the initial push already makes the app available on majority of Freeview-approved devices capable of supporting it. We are also very much focused on making the app available on Freeview-approved devices, which do not include Fire TV or Chromecast.

One issue with the Freeview streaming APK is it requires a higher level of Android than many Fire TV sticks currently run. Attempting to install on a FireTV 4K reports

adb: failed to install freeview-atv-unlocked-1.9.29.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK: Failed parse during installPackageLI: /data/app/vmdl801052043.tmp/base.apk (at Binary XML file line #0): Requires newer sdk version #26 (current version is #25)]

Software / Hardware details

  • Fire TV Stick 4K - 1st Gen (2018)     AFTMM     API Level 25 (Android 7.1)     Fire OS 6

If you've got a 4K Max model you can get the 'tweaked" adb from MH to work, and it is pretty smooth.

  • Fire TV Stick 4K Max - 1st Gen (2021)     AFTKA     Android Level 28 (Android 9)     Fire OS 7

Has anyone managed to get the Fire Cube to allow Spark Sport, TVNZ, Threenow etc apps? They're getting featured to me and I can get them on my fire stick but the moment I try to get them on the Cube, it shows unavailable when you click into the ad for them. It's weird it's promoting apps then not letting me download them. I can install the APK and sideload them but they still don't recognize them in the featured apps if i do that so I end up with two lots, the featured official ones and my Apk side loaded ones which unlike the official ones probably won't auto update. Tried changing regions and all that jazz.

Talked to amazon, they gave me the general runaround ignoring even the screenshots I was showing them of it being advertised to me. Any solutions?

First what generation of Cube do you have - check the OS version below

Secondly try to install the software via the website links

Some of these apps are tagged to Android 9 or for specific Fire TV variants. For example they don't install on the Pendent version of the FireTV

But they will install on the FireTV 4K which also runs Android 7.1
