Anyone else around here playing with Weather Stations.
Just installed a WS 2083.
Relatively simple-even for me.
Sycing with Wundergound.com.
My station ID is IWAIKATO30 if folk want to have a look.
Just need a better location ( apart from sticking in the lawn) to place the transmitter

Yep, I've been playing with weather stations for a few years now as you might have noticed...

In addition to Wunderground, there is a detailed map here which you can contribute your data to:

http://www.localweather.net.nz/maps/meso/NZWN2.php

The difficulty you face with simple weather stations is in isolating the effect of sunlight from your outdoor temp/humidity sensor. My first weather station would consistently report higher than actual temperatures and lower than actual humidity when the sun was out. The solution to this is a FARS (Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield) which I now have with my Davis VP2. It uses a small solar panel to power the fan during the day, and charge some batteries so it keeps running at night.

The next thing you need is some decent software to log the data because what comes bundled with the hardware is usually pretty lacking in this regard. I use Weather Display which is written by a Kiwi but others use Cumulus with good results also.

My signature contains a link to my weather page if you want to see the kind of data I am collecting from my station.

I have my outdoor temp/humidity/solar/UV sensors and rain gauge mounted on about a 2 metre pole attached to a fencepost above grass and well away from any trees, buildings or concrete surfaces. The key thing is to avoid reflected heat from buildings or concrete because that will affect the readings. Ideally the pole should be 1 metre above grass but we have cows and they would mess with it if I did that.

Then I have my wind speed/direction sensor up a 5 metre pole near the top of a handy hill. With the Davis Instrument Suite you can separate the sensors, but I don't know if it's possible in your case.

Yes Jenny from the forums at localweather has been very helpful and got me up and running.,
The webmaster at my Frameit.co.nz also was very helpful.
We are using Concrete5 CMS software to manage our site which I can develop a lot further

Courtesy of Weather Display: http://www.weather-display.com/files.php

I won't pretend it's the easiest software in the world to learn, but there ain't nothin' you can't do with it!
