I'm surprised I can't find anything in the forums about the Laser range of ebook readers?
They're amongst the cheapest on PriceSpy:

Has anybody tried any of them?

Nety: None of the ones there would be considered a true e-book reader IMHO as they are all LCD not e-ink. This means you are looking at maybe 10 hours of battery life not a month or more of battery life. Also all the negatives of reflections in sunlight, possible eye strain etc.
If you are going to get a LCD device you would be better off going for a real tablet so that you can get the advantages of a tablet as well. However personally I would say if you want an e-book reader then get a kindle/kobo/nook or similar.
dman: I'm thinking that too (battery/LCD/etc), but for also movie playback and stuff it could be useful. And then I'd forget about considering about getting a tablet as well as an ebook (my phone can handle my android app desires instead). However after seeing the Nexus 7 featured.... nah, I'm going for that tablet! So a proper real ebook reader is then the right choice for me, Probably the Kobo Touch (sorry freitasm.... !).
dman: I'd normally be reading a lot of economics books from Mises.org, and most are free without DRM so I'm not too bothered.
And I'd purchase the Kobo in Auckland soo... should have local support if something goes wrong?
crackrdbycracku: Kindle.
There is a reason they are the most widely used ebook reader there is.
Sooner or later you are going to want to buy books, those books are going to be on Amazon and Amazon has regular ebook sales.

Personally a little piece of me rebels against the idea of a Kindle like I rebel against following the crowd in getting an iPad ;-)
