I'm trying to purchase an iTunes gift certificate for my brother, who has an iPod. I have searched the new NZ Apple store online and can't seem to find them for sale.

Do I have to have an iTunes account and iTunes installed in order to purchase a gift card? Surely it's possible for me to get a gift card online without having to sign up or install software...

Alternatively, has anyone seen gift cards for sale in 'brick and mortar' retailers?

Cheers

I think to get the gift vouchers, one needs to use the Itunes music store (not the regular apple store) and to order them you'll need an Apple ID.
Perhaps someone else has an idea but I've had the look and thats the only way I can get into making a voucher.

you are ment to be able to buy itunes new zealand gift vouchers from the apple.co.nz store but they are not there. the usa and australian store sell them but the new zealand store does not.you can also buy the itunes gift vouchers in australia from retails stores too. You should email apple new zealand and ask them why new zealanders cannot purchase itunes gift vouchers from the apple new zealand store.

I just got off the phone with Apple NZ. Apparently the only way to get iTunes vouchers is to install iTunes, get an iTunes account, and purchase the voucher through the iTunes store.

I would have thought the purpose of gift vouchers was so people without (and with no desire for) an iPod/iTunes can purchase vouchers for others, but apparently this is not the case. The phone rep said that the Australian store sells "music cards", which he told me are not the same as iTunes vouchers...

For those wanting to do this, the process is pretty painless. I installed the software, got an Apple ID (free), purchased a voucher (you print them yourself), and got out within 5 minutes.

Interestingly I was in Melbourne over the weekend and saw iTunes vouchers for sale. You paid some money and they printed out a receipt with a number on it which you used to enter into iTunes for the amount of the voucher. Very similar to how you buy prepaid minutes now. I was toying with the idea of buying a voucher as a gift but then it occurred to me, you would need to have an iTunes account in Australia to use it and from I have been reading, you cannot open an iTunes account in Australia now with a NZ credit card. So I didnt bother. The songs were going for A$1.69 from memory which seems to be about the same equivalent price for songs here?
