I am looking to add dash-cam / motor eye cameras to my car. A couple of Blackvue cameras.
I would like to be able to have them on as long as possible, even when the car is parked - so that I can have evidence if someone bumps my car while its parked.
The problem then is that they will sooner or later run down the battery, so I am looking at ways to amend that.
Blackvue sells a box they call "Power magic", it can be set to cut the power to the cameras after a certain time period or to cut power when the battery reaches a certain voltage. That should take care of the problem with the batteries being run down.
BUT
The retailer I am buying the cameras from (a NZ company) tells me they can't sell me the box because it doesn't have necessary A-tick or C-tick compliance certifications.
So my question is this: If I import this box myself and put it in my car, could the fact that its not certified a-tick or c-tick mean that I could get problems with my car insurance if something electric should arise? Such as a short in the box leading to a fire?
