Help!  itunes won't recognise my ipod.  I have tried 2 cables, restarted my computer, closed and reopened itunes and nothing works.  I have 2 different audible accounts with Amazon.  Is this anything to do with it?  Do I have to reauthorise my computer?  itunes will recognise my ipad and my iphone, but not my ipod.  Any ideas, please?

Do you have any USB devices connected? Such as a USB keyboard / mouse / printer / scanner / DAC / speakers?
If so, remove them (using a bluetooth keyboard / mouse combo if applicable) and see if that helps.

what the previous poster said plus check out the following link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Can you tell us the actual Ipod Model? Is it a nano, classic, touch etc etc What OS are you using? Windows?
Is your Itunes software up to date?

With the link Ive given, it might pay to just look around that website for more detailed information.

I have all of the above. Have never had to remove them before - this sounds in the too hard basket as I don't have a Bluetooth keyboard

The iPod is a 2nd generation nano. Using windows XP? iTunes is up to date. NEVER had this problem before

sometimes USB ports play up.
Whats the harm in removing all non essential USB devices, rebooting and see if that solves your issue?
(assuming you updated the itunes software as well).

Heres a help link for your issue and particular device. Not all of these steps may be applicable but if all else fails Id suggest you start looking into this further.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363

Ahh yes, I remember now.... one of your PCs is still on XP or older? Does your XP have all the updates applied?
Whens the last time you plugged in this ipod?

Also, yes try looking into 'authorisation' you were talking about. Might pay to read up about it first before trying.

Yes, all updated have been applied.  The last time I plugged the ipod in was before the latest itunes update (just a week or so ago, if I recall).

I'd definitely try removing other USB devices and putting the iPod into a different USB port.

Howd you go with trying a different USB port, checking out the apple support pages for a hint and looking into re-auth the ipod (given it seems like the new itunes has decided to push your ipod off as a subtle hint to upgrade the ipod unfortuantley given its no longer somewhat supported).

Also, resetting the ipod can also help with getting them to sync

Wellygary: I could kiss you!! Have just reset my ipod (before doing all the complicated things suggested by everyone else on the forum), and itunes has recognised it no problem.  Many thanks - it was doing my head in!

great news.
I was hoping you would find http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano/# as step one was 'reset'.

Keep this link for the future... its pretty simple for anyone to follow.
All good.

Thank you to you too, Goosey - so I would have got there eventually.  Sometimes we can over think things when the solution is a simple one.  Whatever would I do without Geekzone!
