Hi all

I thought this is the best place to ask my fellow geeks. I am looking to get a decent daypack that can house my essentials while travelling overseas.

I currently have the Lowepro Video Fastpack 250 that I use for my DSLR, Tripod and laptop. The issue with this is that it barely leaves much space for other essentials like food, jacket, water etc. So I was wondering if there are any backpacks that anyone else can recommend to have while travelling.

I saw this recently and this was very tempting but unfortunately this releases next year April and I was hoping to have something earlier than that.

I also saw the Incase EO Travel which is quite nice. Anyone have any other recommendations? It is not necessary that the backpack have sections for camera gear etc, I can check in my camera most of the time safely enough which should be ok (wrap it in the jacket or something).

Another bag I was considering is the Macpac Thinktank Aztec. It does have all the pockets that I would like, and I love the handle on the front of the pack as well.

But here is a list of things that I would be likely to be carrying:

  • Mac Air + charger
  • Jacket
  • Waterbottle
  • Any shopping done
  • Sunglasses
  • Keys/Wallet/Travel docs
  • small knickknacks like battery pack, headphones travel adapter, external harddrive, usb flashdrives
Basically would like this to be the goto backpack if you are travelling in a plane and should be good enough to use as a daypack while you are walking a foreign city. My requirements for this backpack would be that it shouldn't be very bulky, should be waterproof

What do you guys here use? Or what would your wishlist for the ultimate backpack be?

I'd been considering one of these, as I want something that can take my camera gear but also have room for magazines or an ipad etc.
(because where to put the magazines was the bit I found difficult when travelling last time.)

Make sure it has a waterproof inner pouch so that you can store groceries. I use a oversized neoprene laptop sleeve with a zipper for laptop and ipad for protection.

What about a pacsafe bag like this?

Or a smaller one?

I am thinking of getting one of these for some upcoming overseas travel.  items such as the slashproof straps are REALLY cool.X

I like Tatonka. They do a range of day bags designed for a computer and other gadgets. You get a padded section for a laptop and then an assortment of other pockets and pouches depending on the model that you choose. I used the magpie version for years as I commuted in Germany and it took all the abuse I threw at it.

You will find the full range on amazon.de and the amazon.co.uk site has a smaller selection.
