I bought a zune in the states a week ago.  I trialled the software on a friends laptop running xp - no problems.  But when I tried to load the software on my laptop running vista it tell me it's unsupported.  My investigations tell me it is supported but still it doesn't load. Also, the radio tunes uneven freqs only and jumps two at a time i.e. 97.3, 97.5 etc.  Not handy in NZ where our freqs are even nos.  Same as the uk I tink - i wonder if that will be a problem for NZ or if there will be a firmware update.   Any ideas on getting the software to install?

Sorry, Microsoft Vista doesn't support another Microsoft software product?  That would be embarassing.

Have you tried downloading the latest version from the Zune site?  An updated version was posted not too long ago which may deal with the Vista issue.

I did try verion 1.3 which i dowloaded.   I suspect that this wont be fixed until the Zune is launched in the UK.  It still works on XP ok so I might just sell it.

I don't want to sounds like a prick, but... that's why there's a reason why it is not launched elsewhere around the world except in Northern America.

Zune is not officially certified to any other countries except USA/Canada for now, so the radio frequency issues that you have, maybe part of that too.

fair point but (there's always a but), it works fine on XP so it's still quite useable.  Actually,  I didn't even know that vista was released by region,  I thought that they were all the same.

No, no... You got all wrong. Brad is referring to Zune radio. FM radios have different "steps" in each part of the world. That's why some radios in Japanese imported cars won't work here.

As for Zune and Vista, make sure you donwload the latest version of the Zune software because they do work together.

I've downloaded the latest version of the zune software and no joy.  I have found something in the fine print along the lines of 'north american en/us version of vista only supported' on the zune website.  It still wont load - if someone can prove me wrong I'd be a happy mane.  As for the raio steps - how can you build a mobile device of the kind that will be carried around the world and not have it compatable with all radio stations - or at least give the option of advancing the freq by .1 instead of .2.  There maybe a setting on the zune software that can change this but at this rate I'll never know...

Hi,

I'm running the Zune software on Vista (in Nz) with no issues I'll look into what I did to get it going, but it works fine.  On the FM radio side of things there is a setting in the settings section to change the radio so it does not jump and then it will work good as.

Cheers,
B

that would be excellent, when I load i just gets as far as he 'checking your configuration' screen then it all turns bad.  Where did you get your Zune?

As was said above the Zune is US only at the moment, hence US only settings. Once it is released worldwide then there will be support.

It's like buying a car from the US and complaining that is LHD only...

Boy I'm glad you can change that. It would be a bit annoying if you purchased a Zune and couldn't use the radio feature when traveling in different countries. Even if it is a 'US' version you'd expect a mobile/portable music player to work when you're mobile.

If you want an audio MP3 player that has a working fm radio , try a iriver E10 www.iriver.com I have one and love it.
Syncs via windows media player. does, support WMP playlists , but I just browse the device to play.

Also if you are looking for a good streaming media capture/converter app, might I reccomemnd Replay AV from www.applian.com  . I little bit of a b**ch to set up but it enables me to record and capture BBC Radio in realplayer format, automaticcaly convert to MP3, sync with WMP and then sync with the iriver
