Hi All,
Two years ago we developed and installed a battle-truck / knight rider computer. an Asphalt Sprayer sprayer truck fitted out with a full office computer including scanner, printer, GSM internet allowing the truck operator to send and receive job invoices and details directly from the cab whilst parked up in remote locations maximizing on driver time and minimizing office time.

This has run well for the past two years but now needs a replacement monitor as the existing economic monitor has deteriorated due to the vibration. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement that may survive longer than two years? We are thinking ideally Stainless bezel surrounds / housings but are open to any suggestions. Can any one recommend a monitor?

Check out marine grade monitors, I did one a while ago and was told they are designed to handle vibrations and the weather (salt air). Not cheap but will do the trick.

Had a colleague in Christchurch who had a couple of rugged (from the front) touch screen chassis. These would require you to make your own mounting frame.
Not sure if they would suit, or what he still has. If you were in Chch I could put you in touch so you could assess suitability

What about a tablet which some rugged casing, as they are designed to take the knocks more.

We design rugged agricultural products (but not what you are looking for). You will get very far by just mounting a monitor onto hard rubber blocks and then the rubber blocks to the vehicle. Or preferably a u-channel extruded rubber around the edge and then clamp the rubber to the vehicle. You just want to isolate the vibration.

Or rather aluminium extrusion u-channel over rubber u-profile, then screw the aluminium to the vehicle.

Thanks for advice regarding Marine grade and Aluminum frame / rubber stopper. The above photos explain or design parameters. i.e no larger than 17". Ideally Vesa mount.

That looks nice, the struts will dampen it also, but you want to decouple it. The older model Panasonic Tough Book is (or used to be) mounted in AA vehicles. Some of the newer models may not (or may) be as good, but the old model was very good for vehicle abuse.

When working for the SA Navy we learned the worst shock for a torpedo is not when it hits the water of blasts out of the shoot, it is actually the road transport from the factory to the harbour as it is ongoing vibration rather than just a single jolt.
