Tonight my wife's Kobo Aura wouldn't connect to WiFi. It looked like it had forgotten the WPA password.

I tried re-entering the password to no effect so I did a factory reset.  As it turned out I was originally trying the enter the wrong password Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However since the factory reset I cannot get the device set up, either over WiFi or by using the Kobo desktop.

When  using the Kobo desktop I keep getting a message saying "Oops, something happened to you internet connection, we couldn't complete the setup right now.  Please check you connection and try again."

Well I've done a bit of digging some suggest turning off firewall and running as Administrator, all to no avail.  I've tried on two different computers, both on the same internet connection, however all other apps that access the internet work just fine.
When I try the WiFi option for setup, I get a message saying "Something went wrong...."  "Please try again".  If you clear that message there is another on the WiFi network login page saying ";unable to join XXXXX. Please try again"

Is there an issue with the Kobo website.

I know there was an issue about 3 years ago where they were having problems with some regions, including New Zealand not being able get Kobos set up.

Anyone else having issues?

Thanks for any ideas anyone may have.

had same issue a while back. From memory it needs the time and date set correctly before it can sync.

It wasn't a sync issue it was getting it set up after a factory reset, there wasn't any option to set the date and time.

I kept playing around with it and finally got it sorted late into the night.

After installing the Kobo desktop on another computer and trying different USB cables I plugged the cable into a different USB port, the internet connection problem disappeared.  I went back to the original computer and tried another USB connection and the setup proceeded smoothly. By that time of night I didn't bother to go back and try the original USB port to see what might happen if I were to use that again, it was working and I need to get to bed.

Once I'd set it up on the computer I was then able to set up the WiFi without any problems.

Even though you are offered a WiFi or computer option for the setup, the WiFi option wouldn't work as I kept getting an error message each time I tried to connect to the network via WiFi.

I'm still not sure what the issue was and still suspect a problem with Kobo's server, as I wonder that my change of USB port might be just a coincidence.
