Now that google have announced that Chromecast will be finally able to mirror android devices, I have decided it is time to purchase. Some quick questions:

1. Where to buy - can I source locally (rather than use youshop)?

2. Will I need to run an update to pick up the new mirror functionality - I assume the device auto updates?

3. I don't run a virtual VPN or global mode, so can't access netflix etc - so what are the Chromecast apps that can be happily used with a NZ IP address?

cheers

As for local availability https://price.geekzone.co.nz/search.aspx?q=chromecast, but even though it's in the list, I understand Noel Leeming no longer offer it.

Thanks - I have found a local supplier from priceme. They don't know if if is US or Aus sourced - buy I guess it doesn't matter? Would love to find out if google have rolled out the mirror functionality yet - any current users please answer? Even though main purpose is mirroring, am also keen to learn what other apps on the device will be useful!

My main local apps are YouTube, Play Music, Play Movies, Plex. Sometimes I'll cast a tab from my Chrome browser for flash video sites.

You need Android 4.4.1 or higher currently.

I bought my Chromecast from GadgetImports on Trade Me for $69. Not the cheapest, but the easiest and fastest way to get one.

Wow! So much of good!

I love being able to stream the whole device. Tvnz on demand works great too. Quality is better than streaming tabs in Chrome.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Yep, always pays to read the small print. Rushed out and purchased a chromecast yesterday, primarily for the new mirroring functionality. Only to find that my Z2 is not a supported android device! )-:

You tube works well, tho ...
