Hi I've just setup blueiris on my lan and am really liking it. I now want to view it remotely and I understand I have to foward a port on my modem to do this, plus some other stuff.
What I would like to know, once setup , will my camera's be streaming video 100% of the time to the web and chew up my data cap or will it only use data when I log in remotely to view.
Sorry if it's a noob question this is all new to me.

The second one.

So it will be only when you connect to view, BUT if you leave the browser tab open by mistake it might keep streaming the data.

And exposing services like that to the whole internet when you are not in a position to ensure they are kept up to date with security patches etc is a good way to have the system compromised. Get a VPN if you want remote access. Leave the port fowards to torrenting and gaming etc.
