i actually got my  son a LG L3 phone for $58 as a replacement for his ipod, he only uses it as a mp3 player and he loves it, i put the player pro music player on it and the battery lasts for days . would do it again .

Root and then delete phone app?

Edit: That's what I've done to my old S2 for exactly the same reason.
