This looks to be a significant step up in terms of processing power and speed. 1GB of RAM and a quad core CPU.

Nice. Might be a good boost for my media center, which works well but being a bit more snappy wouldn't go amiss. Then again if it works I'll probably keep it.

I think the Pi update is too little too late. They didn't plan to release a faster board until 2017, but competition has made them rethink that.

I went for the oDroid-C1 $35 like the Pi but a 1.5Ghz Quad core GPU, 1Gb ethernet and eMMC4.5 HS200 Flash Storage slot or UHS-1 SD card.
Even using the SD card and not the faster eMMC storage it does 30Mb/s vs Pi's 20Mb/s

To me it looks like a quick attempt at catchup.

http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/02/02/raspberry-pi-2-model-b/ has a better post as the register rushed their story and made a few errors.

It depends what you're doing, of course. That oDroid won't run the software that I use, for example.

Sorry, yeah I meant on the oDroid. I am running a couple of the original RPi Bs with Raspbmc and they get daily use, and have been running sweet for a couple of years. Great system, but these RPI v2.0s might just make them that much better...

And that windows 10 news is interesting, but I think it will be heaps cut down as I have not see a windows tablet with less than 2GB ram.

The press conference was interesting, not one mention of Android OS even though the Pi now has the memory to run it.
