A couple of weeks ago I had a chance to briefly play with the new Sphero BB8 Star Wars edition coming out soon. When the Sphero PR folks contacted me saying "we have something that will tie with a moving coming later this year" I instantly knew it had to be this: Sphero BB8 - click for bigger image (available now on MightyApe)

Handsomedan: what does it do?

Well given what I've learned at Ignite about modern devices, it probably moves, makes cute noises, and broadcasts your Wi-Fi password in plain text.

You can remote control it from iOS or Android (although there is a Sphero app for Windows 8 and it's an open SDK so...), you can program it, record messages to be played as a VR thing.

Saw a display of them at JB HiFi this morning.

Want to see one going, not sure I want to buy one (well, I do want to buy one, but I'm not sure how long I'd use it for - resisting so far...)

You want it!

I have one coming (I am in AKL this week so not sure if it's at home or not) and the one I played with a couple of weeks ago was so cool...
