Not sure where to put this. I have a cheap IR USB remote (Sanoxy PC Remote) that seems to work well enough but does not generate a couple of keypresses I need (particularly the + key). It also uses multiple keypresses for many keys, making it almost impossible to program into my Harmony. How can I find out which IR protocol it uses and how it generates key codes in the receiver? Basically I want to keep the receiver and dump the remote, and just use the Harmony instead. The Sanoxy is not in the Harmony’s database and the codes I need cannot be programmed so how do I get around this? It must be possible to generate the codes I need. Is there a device in the Harmony database that would be compatible with this?

If you have uber google-fu and can find the Hex codes then Harmony support can set up a device for you with the exact codes.

I don't have the details handy but I was able to find hex codes on the internet, and program them onto my old Harmony (720?). When I got my new Harmony (Ultimate) I was able to teach those codes to it from my old remote. I don't think I ever figured out how to directly load the Ultimate with hex codes.

As mentioned above, it's meant to be possible to get Logitech to do it, but I've never tried.

Let me know if you'd like me to try and find more info about how to do this. It would probably depend what remote you have. Also, it might not work in your particular situation.

Thanks for the responses. In the meantime I have learned a little more. The device is indeed Chinavasion. I was able to programme my Harmony One remote with the database codes. But the Chinavasion remote is a weird device with weird codes. I was hoping to be able to find a way to just send normal keyboard scan codes with it but that seems not to be possible. I found a couple of other databases for remotes that were supposed to be compatible with Chinavasion that did have many more regular keypresses, but I couldn't get them to work.

What I guess I will do is take the half-dozen or so scan codes that the remote does send and remap them at the computer end to improve their usefulness. Unless anyone knows another trick I do not think the Chinavasion receiver is capable of interpreting anything else.
