I have couple of the 4 channel limitless led controllers and was wondering what power adapter to use. Do i need to work that out based on the type of LED strip that is being used?

The amperage depends on how many LEDs you're going to drive, and how bright... i.e. how long the strip(s) are, the type of LEDs, and how many LEDs/metre.

This page  has some numbers (e.g. 5m strip of 5050 LEDs at 60/metre = 72W (6 Amps at 12V).

Just watch the cheap trademe 12v adapters. Total bogus current ratings on them and sellers who dont want to know when they go pop. Triple the price of aliexpress and worse support.
