I see a couple of people bought these as did I.

But I find playing home movies at anything greater than SD they are useless as there is no hardware acceleration (are the reviewers paid to say playback is good?).

Has anyone found any good answer to this prior to me chucking it out?

I bought it as a cheap gamble but looks like I will go back to my netbook for displaying photos/videos to the TV via Kodi.

I bought one and found it terrible. In the end I chucked it out. With those who wrote excellent reviews I thought they were paid to say that or they didnt have the beelink x2 like mine. It was so shocking at playing anything

Was actually not too bad.

But I do think generic android devices do seem to have a lot of app problems.
I think they have not used any sort of optimisation to get the best out of the processor/video rendering.

Thanks, guys. What ver of that ROM did you try, rob? I really mainly wanted it to do video/photos via Kodi so if it has HW acceleration it just might do the trick.

Any tips for the ROM install? I guess I will be OK following the instructions, though.

You need a usb-a to usb-a cable. Not too expensive or hard to find. Pbtech had one for around $3 from memory.
Other than that just follow the instructions. Takes around a minute to flash.
Use the 1.2 version.
I haven't given it heavy use but found kodi worked fine on the file types I tried.

The guy seems to have tweaked the WiFi somehow. I ran a speed test against this and the stock firmware and it's quicker, but can't remember figures.

Give it a try and see what you think.

yeah i brought one - uploaded to this rom: update_X2_v203k4. Updated using Phoenix Card and an SD card.

And it has been very reliable - streams 1080p content from my unraid server via Kodi fine. Also installed addons like Genesis (and now Exodus) and that works great too.

However - brought a 2nd one for a mate and it apparently was choppy and then got the red light fault. Have tried to re flash - no go. Have tried to get a full refund out of GearBest - no go. So yeah 2nd one is a complete dud and Beelink support is non-existent.

So despite my first one still going strong - I would not recommend the X2.

There are always newer better andoid devices coming out and based on my research the S905 based Minx U1 and Wetek Core get the best reviews via the Kodi forums - so I will likely score one of these when the fw stabilises.
