Wanting to get a security camera system put in while we are still completing our renno. Have put in cat 6 to key places so can do PoE.

It's primarily to monitor the outside.

Has anyone bought any cameras or systems from aliexpress? I was thinking of Hikvision. Any recommendations gratefully appreciated.

There are a number of threads on this, with plenty of info to confuse! Most recent I can recall is http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=73&topicid=191949

Whatever you do, do not port forward to your camera.

Wow CleverLoop looks great, can anyone tell me more about the company behind it? The "about" link was all about the product.

I just ordered a Dahua IPC-HDBW4421R-AS from eBay for $170NZ delivered. Went with the -AS as it has the SD slot as its my first camera and I don't currently have a NVR.

I have purchase 4 cameras from Aliexpress 2, hikvision and two foscam, the hikvision domes dont have very big LEDs in them so dont have huge visability at night the foscam ones are better but bigger also.

I front them all with BlueIris with phone app and its a real nice solution.

I ordered a Kamikaze Camera from aliexpress (to try my luck)  $26 US.  Not that good with low light, so will relegate that to the garage.  Sticking with the Escam QD520's as I know those work well and at $36 US are affordable.

Mine were around 100NZ landed each, i have had them all running for over two years now without issue, my only recomendation would be when you go to aliexpress you dont look for the cheapest one you are already getting a good price so go for a better camera.

Just one small tip for new buyers to Aliexpress - always ask if the firmware is English. A lot of Dahua sellers on there are simply buying stock that's had a dubious supply chain and only have Chinese firmware.

The QD520s are pretty good, a real PITA to get configured though.  I had to install windows XP on in virtualbox and use IE6 to configure it.  Couldnt get IE10 in compatability mode, or chrome, or ietester to work with their software.  But once configured, you never have to touch them again.

Then Ive used BlueIris but recently have switched to MotionEyeOs and this is working well.
