We have a a Yale Digital Door Lock YDM3109. I've been trying do the initial set up this evening. We're just going to use the pin feature, so I'm not bothered about the card set up.

The problem...

I'm unable to lock the door from the outside at all. On automatic lock mode, it doesn't lock automatically. On manual mode, from what I can see, all I need to do is place my palm on the keypad to lock it. This doesn't work either.

If I manually lock the door from inside. I am able to unlock the door from outside successfully by using the pin I set up. At least that's working.

I'm thinking it's a problem with the sensor.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Is the locking sensor in when you are locking the door?
On the motice lock, you have the dead bold, latch bolt and the lock sensor.
Leave door open, push the sensor in and lock manually, while holding the sensor still, key in the PIN and see what happens.

If auto lock is selected, then it locks when the lock sensor latch is pushed in.

Thanks for your help. I left the door open, pushed in the sensor latch and locked the door using the manual twist knob. Kept holding the sensor the whole time. Keyed in the pin, dead bolt unlocked, started beeping. Went outside and shut the door behind me. Gave it at least the 5 seconds required to auto lock, but it doesn't lock.

If I switch to manual I'm still not able to lock from outside by placing my hand on the keypad. I see there is also a forced lock from the outside. The manual says to place your hand, then push #, then 3 seconds after enter the code. If I push # then the keypad will start beeping and flashing lots of numbers...

if the the door locks with the lock sensor is manually pushed in, that means the lock sensor is not being pushed in when the door closes.

what cutout do yo have where the bold and latch go into? if this lock is replacing something old, then check the holes, you need something to engage the lock sensor.

from memory you can use the manual lock, and if it is on manual, that is when you can lock from outside as well by touching the panel and pressing #.

As far as I can tell, the lock sensor lines up with the middle screw. So it definitely gets pushed in, but maybe not enough?

It's a brand new aluminium door, and the door manufacturer installed the door handle.

@Sam91 do you think you could put in thumbnail or resize the pictures please as they dont auto size properly in some browsers.

Turns out the door hadn't been installed correctly. The installer hadn't pulled through and connected one of the wires. Everything works fine now.
