The unit probably costs $2 to manufacture in mainland China and the rest of the price is the shipping and profit margin.

That is cheap. I'd get one at that price. We use a similar box on the main TV here, and it does the job rather well. Firmware might well be dodgy but there are some good alternate firmwares around for this chipset anyway.

Because they will probably not ship it or ship something else to you. Its a seller with feedback of 44.

Chances are they have stuffed up the currency conversion when listing it since its in canadian, those S905 boxes should be about $35 usd

When they realize the mistake they will either not ship or send something else and then tell you to send that back to get a refund.

I ordered one too and it got cancelled a few hours later.

There are lots on Ebay that are the same for about the same or less money, the listings are exactly the same but I have not checked the sellers name to see if they are all the same seller.

Now for the fun part - getting my money back.

And they are all low feedback accounts selling them, so chances are the same thing will happen.

I will only buy off established chinese sellers, its far too easy to setup and start selling on ebay, and I can do without the hassle of dealing with the complaints process.

That's not a guarantee, more a sort of guideline. I've received completely fake, nonfunctional products from Chinese vendors, provided proof of this to eBay, and they settled in favour of the vendor.

The other thing that someone told me happens is that peoples dropshipping accounts get compromised and others will use those to ship things to people, so someone else is out the cost of the goods, the crook gets the whole price you pay, and the buyer is none the wiser but may find their address blacklisted by that dropshipper for future shipments.

Turns out you were right - the seller did not ship the item and his account was suspended by Ebay as other buyers had complained.

I logged an investigation via Ebay's money back guarantee Ebay has refunded me in full so i'm pleased with their process.

Oh well, if it's too good to be true it probably is :)
