Not going to replace my current dots as I dont see anything new with these ones.

I was really p....ed off with the tap, useless wifi on it so I hope that the costcutting on the dot has not lead to that happening.

Great review of the echo. Gets good about 3:45 in when he starts trying to use it. Just remember to keep a giant steak knife handy when interacting with it.

I've got an Echo (mainly to test my smarthome voice control - which works brilliantly BTW) and when my new house is built I imagine I'll get a dot for the garage, my bedroom and the kitchen...

At the moment though, all it does it tell me the time in various places, do the odd currency conversion, play 80's music and turn the lights in the lounge on and off :-)

Cheers - N

(I might also get a Google thingy when they release that as well - I think I will like the Google ecosystem better than the Amazon, so if the voice control and 3rd party smart home feature control is as good then I'll switch)

Has anyone elses prime music gone away and its started offering a subscription to "music unlimited"instead?

Just tried playing something today and it was a no go with that offer instead.

It would seem that there is 2 services for music on amazon now, prime music which is like 2 million songs and now "music unlimited" which has 10's of millions.  But music unlimited needs to be paid for.

Would not be surprised if echo/dot etc now need music unlimited to work.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

can anyone tell me if they can be programmed, so if i say "Alexa Lights" in the lounge, the lounge lights will turn on, and if i say it in the bedroom the bedroom lights will turn on?

or do i have to say "Alexa Lounge Lights"?

Yeh was looking at getting a smarthings hub to set up the lights/temp. Not entirely sure what products are best to do this. But apparently they work well together do they not?

You have to define the zone you're in as smart homes devices are shared between accounts/devices so all Echo's know about the same smart home entities in your house.
