Tonight I saw an ad on TV and at first I thought, oh just another rubbish infomercial product, but then I saw Harvey Norman are actually selling it.

Basically something that sticks to the back of your phone that claims to absorbe and deflect the radiation away from your head..

Apparently proven to reduce radiation exposure by 95%,

Made in aussie.

About ten years ago I was sent something like this for review. The only thing it did was reduce the signal strength making calls impossible in marginal areas.

Paul Brislen complained to ASA last year over the same thing (an earlier incarnation of the company) and the complaint was upheld.

To the OP - what channel was the ad on?

I saw a device like this (but not the same brand) prominently on display at a large pharmacy chain here in Oz. I complained to the pharmacist on duty about the misleading claims of said devices, but she just shrugged and said their head office mandated the display.

I watched the recording of Newshub @6 from last night and saw the TV ad. It's this add here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ANfxUjRXSI but rather than featuring all those Australian resellers it just features Harvey Norman.

Surely someone from the telcos could have a hard word to them about selling these devices alongside phones? The presense of them in a store like that legitimizes them and may make people think twice about the safety of the phones that they are supposed to be selling for the telcos
