I am currently in the UK for Christmas and have just seen the Amazon Echo in full flow at someone's house. I immediately fell in love.

I've been on google ever since to see if they will work in NZ and from my research, especially on the site, it looks like they will (with a little bit of jiggery-pokery). However, it seems that people on this forum have the US version and I have the possibility of buying the UK version.

Does anyone have any opinions as to whether the UK version would be easier to install in NZ?

Thanks

There is now an option in the app to change language. Why anyone would want that horrible UK voice tho...

But being of English stock, I think I would prefer the refined tones of an English Alexa.

It's now 4am in the morning and am a bit jet-lagged to say the least.

Decided to unpack my UK version of Amazon Dot (gen 2) and having fun so far.

Some things to note, which seem different from the other Amazon Echo posts:

1) It comes with a USB connection, so I can plug it straight in to a USB wall plug adaptor (so no UK -> NZ adaptor required, or bending pins)

2) Changing the time zone was an option on the settings menu.

Now trying to suss out how to connect it to my UK Amazon Prime account as it keeps trying to get me signed up to the US version.

Are you saying you can select NZ as a timezone? Does it then respond to weather with local weather?

Unfortunately not - still gives me the weather in the UK. However, it gives me the correct time.

Hmm Ok well that's consistent from what I have heard. I have a reliable source who says they will soon (tm) allow other countries to use Echo incl local weather.  Sports and other such things aren't likely to follow any time soon however due to the huge variances.

But at least I can ask it for the 'weather in Henderson, New Zealand', so not a massive problem, but it would be nice if Amazon could do an NZ version.

Has anyone on here compared the Echo/Dot to the Google Home for NZ use?  I'm quite keen to pick one or the other up soon

My US echo dots also have a USB power supply for them, I fount it erratic on a different charger however. It does take more than 500mA so may hit the limits on some chargers.
