I am looking for a self monitored security system, I see Mauricio did a review of the CleverLoop system.  It looks pretty good but I could not tell from their website whether the cameras were POE or not.  I really don't want to run power and ethernet.

The other system that caught my eye is the Netgear Arlo.  Arlo has both wireless and wired cameras.  This is a really handy system.

Both systems have the ability to listen and talk via the camera.

Does anyone here have experience with these or are you aware of a system that is just as good or better?

I was hoping to incorporate smoke detectors as well.

Arlo also has really cost effective cloud storage https://www.arlo.com/en-us/products/subscription-plans.aspx

Morepork looks quite good as it has smoke detectors but it looks like the unit connects via a Spark sim rather than wifi or ethernet which means an ongoing cost forever as far as I can tell.  Cheap setup however. https://www.morepork.nz/

cheapest option is buying some ip cameras from aliexpress/dx.com etc, then using software.

I was using blueiris for this at my old house, really good software, cameras were about $50nzd landed each.

morepork is pretty great, the camera quality is good, but the design isnt great, would rather have a dome camera you could hide all the cables with.  i just shoved mine in the garage because of uglyness (and my server/rack is in the garage).

morepork makes it pretty simple though, easy cloud backup for recordings etc, and the alarm is pretty great.  nice app too (use alarm.com app not morepork app).

Netgears Arlos are quite good, do push notifications on motion when outside of a geolocation area etc

Wireless and battery operated.

Not cheap however.

A friend of mine caught a burgler with his. Got a push notification, looked at the cameras and saw someone climbing into the windows. Call the cops and they caught him in the act.
