See story on Designboom.com at http://www.designboom.com/technology/hover-camera-passport-apple-04-13-2017/

as of yesterday, the selfie drone—built by zero zero robotics—is now exclusively on sale in apple stores in five countries including the US and UK, and online on the apple website.

It’s main selling point being that the autonomous camera follows you mid-air, always keeping you in the shot whilst capturing 13MP pictures and sending them straight to your devices, or streaming a video in real time. the hover camera passport uses advanced artificial face and body recognition technology to keep you in focus, making sure you never leave the frame.

How long before we see everyone walking along Takapuna Beach or Oriental Parade with a drone following along behind recording the event?

From a design, technology and engineering perspective, those look awesome.

From a human perspective, I don't get why anyone would actually want to do this.

Do they automatically avoid clashes with selfie drones?

With it's <15min battery life it won't be an annoyance for long.

People who hate selfie sticks are just going to love this (not). The ultimate narcissist accessory, your own personalized film crew.
If they are exclusive to Apple stores then I guess NZers will need to wait for their next overseas trip.

I can think of a million reasons.  But, most of those reasons are banned by NZ drone laws (many of the best places such as parks are banned to drones).

Most people will buy them even if they have no use for one because it has the Apple logo..

Did you even look at the product? It doesn't have an Apple logo.

And wow, you think most people will buy one? That means they'll sell billions of them. Perhaps time to invest in the company, hmnnn...

Would be an interesting companion for those solo runs.

Put in a distress detection algorithm and the ability to sound a siren and call authorities. Maybe a spotlight as well. While we're at it install a tazer too.

The video shows it flying around inside cathedral, just zooming around near all the centuries old stained glass. I'm pretty sure they would be told very promptly to cease and desist.
