Looking for recommendations for a monitored alarm system for my mum who lives alone in Auckland.

We have had some quotes and they are $1K up-front then a 3 year term and then you need to pay them to come and remove their equipment... seems expensive!

Am looking into Morepork but I feel like she would want a more professional/not so DIY solution.

Can anyone recommend some companies?

So someone calls her when it goes off and sees if someone needs to be sent - both if she is out (fully alarmed) or sleeping (some zones alarmed).

My mother has just put in a ADT necklass type thing (like the one St Johns advertise). It can be used for personal security if needed as well as it has voice capabilities and can run independently from an monitored alarm. And in the weeks leading up to its installation, another elderly relative had his monitored smoke alarms go off, and he didn't hear the phone, also monitoried by ADT, they rang him, his son and us (he's my brother in laws father by marriage). Getting no decent answer from all of them the fire department was dispatched in the time that I could make my way there.

I thought was a pretty good response. So long story short, see about an existing alarm, and investigate monitoring by ADT. I'm not sure their alarm monitoring, but the personal alarm was average.....but with community services card it worked out free.

Clearly you have no capacity to empathise with women who live alone. That's OK though, you're obviously an alpha tech god.

Alarms are often ignored by neighbours (and in fact were, hence she wants a monitored one). But according to you, she can show the alarm message on her cell phone to the intruder standing in her bedroom and he'll go away?

What an amazing product.

We work with some guys called Locktec Automation - they do IP/GPRS module installs for us when we move customers to VoIP.

Honestly no idea what a system would cost (although around $1k+ would sound about right), but they can do the install work and provide options for monitoring - both self monitoring and through a monitoring station.

Will PM you a number as I only have the techs mobile!

There is more to security than just monitoring the object that needs protection. Depending on the response to sbiddle, your comments might have been valid. Monitoring & keeping an "eye on" are completely different from support & assistance.
