I have been searching for a wall light switch with an embedded PID sensor to turn lights on when it detects a person and then off after a few minutes. Cannot seem to find them anywhere locally in Auckland. Anyone have knowledge of where I can get one?

PDL do a module for their 600 series range with a PID. It ain't cheap however.

PID or PID? Can't imagine why you'd need a control loop on a wall sensor.

You can buy a PDL plate then use a switch and this module

Pretty sure the OP means PIR (although PID is also often used )

The price on that unit is exactly what DarthKermit meant :)

yes the price is pretty stupid. Just did a quick check on ebay and the whole package is around $5.00. Ex China of course but it makes me wonder how do local firms survive with those excessive prices

You pay a premium for PDL but equally that module will drive a 750W resisitive / 100W inductive load. It's a whole lot more capable than most of the 200W units from Aliexpress. That and you get an SDOC etc.

Electrical wholesalers have a distinct lack of interest in dealing with the general public and will show this by whacking a fairly healthy margin on what they advertise as a retail price,

If you know a friendly sparky get them to stick it on their "trade" account, and it will likely be half the price...

electricaldirectltd is fairly well priced I found, they pretty much sale to the public at trade prices IME. I could get things slightly cheaper, but we're talking about a few dollars, not $30.

Local firms survive because nobody really wants to kit our their house/buildings with cheap components that most likely will fail quicker than the more expensive types or at the extreme cause a fire.
