Having recently purchased some Nest Protect smoke detectors I'm quite keen to expand the ecosystem - I'm loving the look of the Nest Secure alarm system but unfortunately this isn't sold in New Zealand currently. Does anyone know if this is coming to NZ? Otherwise what is the best way to get it in and will it work properly in NZ if imported from America?

I'd also love to hear how it's working out day-to-day if anyone else has imported it and uses it.

I'm interested in this discussion as well.

Nest Secure uses the Thread network protocol (using what appears to be the 2.4Ghz radio frequency) for communication so doesn't have any of the US Z-Wave radio frequency issues like many other security systems from the US.

Anyone got one up and running in NZ?

Hi All,

I recently imported a Nest Secure starter set + additional detects from the US and installed them in my house last night. The only piece of additional kit required was a plug adapter (not a transformer) for the Nest Guard Hub. Installation took 30min following the Nest app instructions, everything worked right out of the box. I'm very impressed with the easy setup, the small size of Nest's wireless detect sensors on windows/doors and integration with my existing Google eco-system making it worth the extra upfront costs for me.

Happy to field any questions other users might have. Google cancels orders to most of the shipping forwarding addresses so I ordered the starter kit from Amazon and additional detect sensors from Ebay. Starter kit + youshop delivery came under threshold for duty so no additional fees :)

We got the Nest Secure starter kit through EBay and had it delivered direct to our NZ address. We've had it for over 8 months now.

We too also had problems trying to order directly through Nest or Amazon. Ended up being cheaper through EBay, e.g. less than RRP. We got a "Nest Home Secure Alarm Security System H1500ES New In Box - Sealed" item.

The power cable is plain ole USB so you just pop that out of the US adapter and plug it into an NZ adapter.

The Nest security app has been quite good. Geo-fencing works fine and haven't run into any other issues being in NZ.

If I've found the right Wi-Fi device. In the last 30 days, 177MB downloaded, 790MB uploaded.

No idea what the data is, you'd have to ask Google.
