Just wanted to show off something that I have put together.

A web controlled robotic arm that allows visitors to the website to control the arm and watch their actions via a webcam.

No, this is not commercial advertising - I built it as a hobby Smile

The address for the site is http://www.kennedytechnology.com

Enjoy!

Hey! This is awesome! A bit hard to judge distance from where the webcam is, but cheers for picking the peice up and helping me out.

2 thumbs up!

Thanks very much - I'm glad you like it!

I've got plans for more toys etc. I built it a couple of weeks back just to prove to myself that it could be done, and it has turned out to be a really fun project!

Will be putting another camera angle on it also, to make it easier to judge distances etc...

BTW, I just noticed that there is a 'Robotics' forum, and perhaps I should have posted in that - will I get told off for double posting? Or is it pretty relaxed around here?

I'm not a mod, but double posting is usually a bad thing, if for no other reason than it gets confusing, however I'm sure a mod can move it over there

Thanks very much!

The arm itself is a kit that I bought from JayCar, link is http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=KJ8916&CATID=&keywords=robot+arm&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID= (if you buy one, be sure to tell them about the site - I'm trying to get some spare parts out of them!)

The controllers are the same that I use for my computer controlled christmas light project (Christmas lights syncronised to music). Information about that project, and the controllers etc, can be found at http://www.pacificlights.co.nz

The controlling software is something that I wrote in Perl, and using PHP for the front end.

excellent, thanks heaps for the info on the robotic arm, very kind! I will be sure to mention the site, and hopefully that translates into parts for you. So php and perl eh, that sounds technical, will have to do some investiating further. I like the idea of developing the web controlled interface. Excellent stuff, and keep up the great work, you should be very pround of it!

cheers alot
