Alexa has had a new "whisper mode" enabled as of yesterday that allows to whisper to her, and she whispers back, keeping the volume level of her replies down at night. Here's how to enable it -

  • In your Alexa app, click the settings cog at the bottom right.
  • Scroll right down to 'Alexa Voice Responses' under General.
  • Enable 'Whispered Responses'

That's it. Now when you whisper to her, she whispers back. It works, but seems slightly creepy....

My Alexa app had just updated, so the settings for settings updated to a new stylised lock icon (still at the bottom right). I then needed to select the hamburger at the top left and hit settings from that drop down. That finally got me to the "voice responses" part, but no "whisper mode". However after closing the app and reopening, it magically appeared!

Might turn brief responses off while I play with whisper mode.

I turned this on last week, tried it out, thought I was in a horror movie and so turned it back off.

Creepy is an understatement.  She doesn't have the best whisper voice around!

My son went up to Alexa and whispered...

"Alexa, Simon says I don't know where you are, but I will find you and I will kill you"
