I finally got a "smart" watch (thanks to a GZ members generosity), an older Pebble Steel..... so obviously with Pebble now gone, support is limited, and appears its alter-ego Rebble is going quiet as well on the app side of things. (lot of the apps require a phone app which no longer seem to exist)

Main thing Im eyeing up a watch for, is notifications, such as email, SMS, FB messenger etc. Unfortunately these are all handled "3rd party" far as the Pebble is concerned, so I don't get notified of too much.

If I was to buy a newer watch like a Xiaomi Mi Amazfit Bip Smart Watch, whats the likelyhood of it being able to pick up the Android notifications from the services I use ?

Email = Outlook

FB Messenger = Messenger

SMS = Android Messages (or whatever they called the latest version of it)

I've got a couple of Pebbles, and both provide notifications from my phone very happily. You need the Pebble app (which is still available, along with some forks) and Android wear.

Some services are better integrated than others. e.g. my Gmail messages allow me to archive or delete from the watch; Outlook messages are just a notification. Similarly, SMS you can reply from your watch, but Whatsapp is just a notification (I don't use FB messenger so can't comment on that one).

Most notifications used to use android wear as a go-between IIRC. Install that and the Pebble app and see what happens.

My pebble (running rebble) gets all notifications except who is actually calling (comes up with unknown caller)... Android 9 ruined that. Was fine in Oreo.

What phone do you have? Most phone manufacturers have their own SMS apps.. Some might use Android Messenger, but most, Sony and Samsung for example, don't.

Edit: seems mdf is onto it! :D

Ive got the Pebble app installed (and running with Rebble) , installed Android wear (WearOS) but dosent seem to recognize this watch, just sits there searching.

Phone is a Huawei P10Lite (Android 8.0.0)

Only notifications I've seen arrive so far, are calls, TradeMe (app), Gmail reminders. No notification for Gmail, Outlook, SMS, Messenger.

As has been said up there^^ Pebble delivers all notifications quite happily without 3rd party intervention.

I run iOS and the only issues I have with Pebble/Rebble is remaining connected via Bluetooth, which is more to do with my iPhone than anything else.

I tend to stick with my Apple Watch for that reason.

My son runs his Pebble with Android and it's flawless...and more functional.

You have to give the apps all notification privileges in android (not sure where on 8 because 9 is totally different) and in the pebble app under the bell thing at on the right of the main screen.

Found help info in the WearOS app that said to try factory resetting the watch. Did that, reset the Pebble app and now emails working :) So getting there :) Thanks for your help :)

Update : SMS, Gmail, Outlook, Calls all working now :)

Odd, before I factory reset the watch, I could download the standard faces, now Ive got notifications etc going, but cant download those faces anymore, just get "no internet connection". Switch to Rebble and can download their ones fine. Cant win ;)
