Hi Guys,

I am looking at buying a new kindle and I am tossing up between the new Paperwhite 4 LTE and the Oasis 2 LTE.

Anyone got recommendations for either? The Oasis looks really nice and much easier to hold than my paperwhite 2. The only thing that is putting me off is the cost, the only local place I can find to buy it is Heathcotes and its almost $600

Keen for your thoughts.

I've had a Paperwhite gen2 for ages, they're great. The Oasis might be a bit better, but the Paperwhite is great. Get the Paperwhite.

Suggest getting the WiFi version unless you really need LTE. Just sync at home. Almost everywhere has WiFi anyway.

Ditto to this. The Oasis is supposedly better ergonomically, but there are plenty of people who prefer the Paperwhite's ergonomics. The big difference from what I can tell is that the Oasis has touch buttons, which are nice, but are they worth several hundred dollars premium?
Same advice regarding Wi-Fi. If you absolutely need to download a book from the beach, then phone tethering can take care of that for you. Most books are only a meg or so.

I love my Oasis but it was a present...if I was buying it myself I would probably plump for the new Paperwhite depending on how rich I was feeling!

That said, if you wanted one I would buy the international version from Amazon.com and have it shipped. current exchange rate it should cost you around $450 which is much better than $600!

As others have said, definitely wouldn't bother paying extra for LTE - haven't missed it on any of the Kindles I have owned.

The oasis is a *magnificent* device but it's seriously taking the p$ss with the price. I bought one, simply because for me, the buttons and charge case were worth everything to me. The buttons especially. I then lost it when I was overseas and couldn't bear to be without it and reluctantly bought another.

If you don't need the buttons or don't want them, be sensible and buy the paperwhite which is also an amazing device.

Don't bother with LTE, there is simply no need. I always buy mine from Amazon direct. There is an affiliate link at the bottom of the page which supports this site.

Agree!

Also, the current one (that I have) doesn't have the separate charge case - it is one solid unit but with the same asymmetrical shape as the original. It does make it much comfier to hold for long periods than the Paperwhite IMHO

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have found the Oasis 8GB Wifi at Noels for $430 compared to Amazon at $480 so I think I will go with that.

Bit late but my 2c.

I got my first kindle 3g Keyboard when they were first launched in the uk and had no issue with it.

Replaced it with a paperwhite after breaking it the day before an overseas trip.

Screen quality better but I _HATED_ the absence of buttons. Whenever I held it in my hand and touched the screen to advance a page it would open the pull down menu from top.

So reluctantly I bought an Oasis for the buttons. Huge difference and although the cost is ridiculous the need for buttons is not negotiable.

I would get the wifi version because I would argue all of us would be roaming on our cell phones on an overseas trip so can just use our phones as hotspot.

I have a paperwhite from a few years ago, as well as a keyboard one from 8-9 years ago I think. I enjoy the buttons (but can live without them) but find that the old one is actually clearer in bright sunlight (and, being old, I don't mind taking it to the beach where it might get wet/destroyed)

I got the Kindle Voyage when they came out as a compromise to the Oasis and love it. Its is 300ppi like the latest paperwhite/oasis. Got mine off Trademe with smart close case for way less than import. While the specs on the others now might be higher I have been really happy with it. Lasts an amazing amount of time and yes has the vital buttons.
