Painters working on our house waterblasted the hardwired siren/strobe unit for our Bosch 880 alarm. Now the siren sounds continuously although there is no indication on the panel, and none of the usual codes will silence it.

From searching the net this sounds like a classic water damage scenario. The original installer has quoted me a $196 call out fee, plus another $295 to replace the unit if they deem it unrepairable. I’ve declined their offer for the moment.

Polycarbonate sirens with blue strobes which appear very similar to ours seem to be available online from between $50 and $100 from a number of sites.

My question is, are these units generic? Will an SS-1C for $50 work happily with the Bosch panel, or do I need a specific model? Any better options than the SS-1C?

Thanks,
Pete.

Is there any signalling sent from the main panel or just a power feed to the siren/strobe which then activates its internal controller that makes the flashing/noise?

There's probably some sort of tamper circuit as well, so the alarm activates if the box is opened. Tried ventilating and drying it out?

I tried reconnecting the power a few sunny days later, but it still activated immediately.

From memory it has connections for +V, Siren, Strobe, and Tamper. I can’t recall if there are other connections but I’m assuming the siren pulsing and strobe flashing are done by the unit itself. That is an assumption though.
