Hi all,

I am looking for a fitting to fit the Philips Hue GU10 bulb.

All shops sell the lights, non sell the fitting. Anyone able to help out?

Cheers

Most lighting shops have spotlights etc. that take the GU10

Are you looking for a specific type of fitting?

Halogen downlights often used the GU10 fitting. The problem is that it isn't the most reliable fitting, as the pin contacts can be poor. You may pickup something on trademe, because most lighting shops have stopped selling halogen downlights fittings. Superlux is a manufacturer you could also try.

Not Hue, but I got some standard GU10 from countdown 2 for $15 or so last week.

The problem is that the Hue bulb does not fit the standard GU10 fitting.

We have some Philips GU10 bulbs that replaced standard halogen ones and there was no problem with the fitting. Where are you getting this information that they are different?

If you’re putting them into an enclosed fitting there might be a problem in that the Hue GU10’s have a longer body than the halogen ones did, so it may stick out further than you’d like. Is this what you mean?

Do you mean the MR16 fitting which are pins, and are not a very reliable fitting type? I think MR16 fitting are low voltage ones. Ii think you maybe getting confused between the two fittings

This is the bulb, it's a GU10 according to Philips. Apparently they fit is people's existing fittings.

I am building a new home. So no existing fittings and finding them turns out to be hard. So would be good to hear from someone that had the same issue but found a fitting for this light.

The fittings that we have tried so far, did not fit this bulb as they did not fit in the opening.

Ah - are you trying 240V Halogen downlight fittings, and not 12V ones? The 12V ones have a ceramic block with two pin holes in them.

You're looking for something like this: https://superlux.co.nz/products/downlights-and-recessed/sdc-tlt-wh (they have a few that take GU10). Not sure if that one is deep enough for the Hue, but they have contact information on that page.

Thanks for that!

I was just hoping to find someone here that has done the same thing and knows a place where I can find the right fitting.

We tried a few and the Hue bulb did not fit. To thick.

The opening of what? Do you have a photo showing the problem? GU10 is a universal fitting.  I have fitted LED versions of GU10s into new external up and down light fittings like this http://www.lightingplus.co.nz/lighting/exterior-lights/tubular-wall-lights/kube-gu10-2lt-black-exterior.html   without any problems. You will notice however that the halogen and LED ones do differ in height as shown on that page, so I suspect the hue ones may not fit into some gu10 downlights. The philips hue ones may even be longer than normal LED GU10 bulbs. However I have normal Philips LEDs using MR16 fittings, which fit in downlight fittings, because the MR16 plug is  not constrained and is free to move, whereas GU10 fittings tend to be fixed to the structure of the light fitting. This is possibly because one is mains and one is LV.  So I can install philips LV LED MR16 replacements in my old halogen light fittings. But don't think Philips hue come in MR16 LV bulbs.
