Hey there,

 

Does anyone have recommendation on tracking devices for keys and things like that that get lost/misplaced/stolen?

 

I know there is the 'tile' device has penetrated the market - but am wondering if there is anything else out there that is just as good / if not better?

I've used Tiles - found them to be largely useless. 

 

 

 

I had a Blunt+Tile umbrella and left it on the bus. It relied on other Tiles being near to triangulate its position - I only ever got one ping from it and it would've been long gone by the time I got there, so I just made it make a noise whenever I could, but to be honest, it was a waste of time/effort/money.

These trackers all rely on user volume - the smallest players won't have enough people using their app to reliably pinpoint their location. Tile is probably the closest one to having a critical mass here in New Zealand. Also they at last have replaceable battery models.

There’s a rumour that Apple may be introducing one of these products soon. Seems unlikely to me but the size of the user base would make it pretty useful I reckon.

Still smaller than Android user base and Tile works with both.

I've found the tile one real useful, my Dad has misplaced his car keys and it has found them.

 

I don't have tile premium, so limitation is phone has to be in range, I just walk around until in range then do noise maker.

 

Don't think they'll help for anything stolen as easy to remove tile from item even if was full GPS.

 

Apple is going to get in on the game as well, have to wait and see if they do it better.
