My Quest finally arrived.  My thoughts below:

SDE - still visible but not bad. Not really noticeable during games but visible in movies (eg. Netflix). Better than PSVR, Vive, CV1 but movies on my OLED are still better.

Comfort - It feels heavier compared to the PSVR. IMO the PSVR has a more well balanced approach with the halo. You really have to get the Quest fitting right with the strap under the back of your head.

Software - Mind blown. On par with PS4. How did Oculus get this level of quality out of a 2yr old mobile chip???? Vader looks amazing and huge. Robo recall looked fantastic. Tilt brush incredible. Seriously this is magic at it's finest. Just incredible.

Cable free - Game changer. Being able to walk around in VR adds another level of immersion. The freedom, the mobility, the not having to worry about a cord. I can't see myself ever wanting to go back to tethered. Mobile chips will get better and better. Guardian is great. This is the future.

Conclusion - If you haven't bought a Quest yet, do it. You won't be disappointed. Oculus hit it out of the park.

For reference, former DK1 owner, former PSVR owner, former GearVR owner. I've also played with Vive and CV1.

Anyone else get one?

I just can't deal with any screen door effect. Until that's solved I'm out.

It's not noticable in games but yes I wouldn't watch movies in it.

Last gaming system I brought was a PS3.

I'm waiting for a good wireless VR one, though wished could get from NZ so could try before buy.

The Oculus Quest looks like the closest device to my interests at moment, I have a few 3D movies and as they no longer make 3D TV's would like it to double up to do that as well. Don't know if that's how they work though.

Eh, standalone kinda kills it for me. The fact its wireless out of the box is appealing but in the end its a mobile chip without the grunt to play PC titles and also locked to the oculus store.

Its effectively the ‘mobile/console’ of PC VR which puts it in a weird position.

Hi,

Yes I'm thinking of getting one, even if just to play Beat Sabre.

Can I ask, the $699 (or whatever you paid) did that include the applicable taxes for NZ. i.e. you didn't get charged by Customs?

Thanks.

I paid $899 NZD. It didn't get stopped by customs so I'm not sure if I was lucky or I'd already paid import costs.

Hi,

Thanks. I read the Oculus website again and it says it covers applicable taxes. So I bit the bullet and ordered one.

I'll give a review too in a couple of weeks!

A couple of people at work bought the Rift S and after trying my quest are having second thoughts.

The freedom of movement seems much more important than the minor gap in quality.

You'll love it.

I'm with you.

I've been to VR Studio quite a few times and mostly end up playing Beat Sabre. I was thinking of getting a similar set-up at home but the expense to play one game isn't worth it. When I read about the Quest it just sounded too good.

I can't wait for it to arrive.

Hi,

Just wondering, when you buy games from the Oculus Store do you pay in USD? I can see that it is USD but I've also VPNed to other locations and can see prices show up as GBP or AUD. I wonder if it makes any difference where you buy them from.

Thanks.

We played few games on Oculus Quest last week. It was incredible. Absolutely new experience.

Some complains:

Myself - I am wearing reading glasses and played without them - picture was not that sharp and sort of headache had developed in 20 minutes

Did not risk putting glasses on as lenses inside were unprotected and I did not want to damage device (was not mine)

Lady - too heavy to wear, but still cool

I just pay in USD.  I haven't bothered trying other currencies.

And it accepted NZ. I have been emailing with them about it as there basically is a NZ$50 difference between their US$ and NZ$ price. But it forces you to NZ when you select NZ as delivery. No real free shipping I guess. And yes I hope it doesn't add taxes when it comes over
